Supported Applications
The Omega RDXL-SD Series comprises portable, multi-channel thermometer data loggers designed for real-time temperature measurement and recording. The series includes the RDXL4SD (4-channel) and RDXL12SD (12-channel) models, which support Type K, J, T, E, R, and S thermocouples as well as Pt 100 Ω RTD sensors. These handheld devices feature an LCD display with green backlighting for simultaneous channel monitoring and utilize SD memory cards ranging from 1 GB to 16 GB for data storage.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The RDXL-SD Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) and a relative humidity limit of less than 85% RH. Measurement performance varies by sensor type, resolution setting, and specific temperature span. The series supports automatic temperature compensation for Type K/J/T/E/R/S thermocouples and linear compensation across the full range.
Sensor Ranges and Accuracy:
- Type K (Thermocouple): Measures from -50.1 to 1300°C. At 0.1°C resolution, accuracy is ±(0.4% + 1°C) for the -50.1 to -100.0°C span and ±(0.4% + 0.5°C) for the -50.0 to 999.9°C span; at 1°C resolution (1000 to 1300°C), accuracy is ±(0.4% + 1°C).
- Type J, T, E: Support ranges up to 1200°C, 900°C, and 900°C respectively (per manual), with accuracy specifications of ±(0.4% + 1°C) or ±(0.4% + 0.5°C) depending on the temperature band.
- Type R/S: Measure from 0 to 1700°C (Type R) and 0 to 1500°C (Type S). Accuracy is specified as ±(0.5% + 1°C).
- Pt 100 Ω RTD: Available on the RDXL4SD model only, measuring from -199.9 to 850°C. Accuracy is ±(0.4% + 1°C) at 0.1°C resolution.
- Fahrenheit Scales: Corresponding ranges and accuracies are provided in °F, such as Type K from -58.1 to 2372°F.
Note: Accuracy values apply to the meter only when tested under an environment temperature of 23 ±5°C. The display sampling time is approximately 1 second, and data logging intervals are configurable from 1 second to 3600 seconds.
Configuration Options
The series offers distinct channel configurations, sensor compatibility options, and connectivity features tailored for portable field use or stationary monitoring with battery power.
- Channel Configurations:
- RDXL4SD: 4-channel digital thermometer; includes support for two input channels when using RTD sensors. Ships complete with four beaded wire Type K thermocouple probes.
- RDXL12SD: 12-channel thermometer; ships complete with twelve beaded wire Type K thermocouple probes.
- Memory and Data Logging:
- Supports SD memory cards from 1 GB to 16 GB.
- Sampling modes include Auto (settable time) and Manual (push-button save).
- Data can be downloaded via RS232 or USB PC interface for analysis in Excel.
- Power Supply:
- RDXL4SD: Powered by six AA alkaline batteries (UM3) or an optional DC 9V adapter input.
- RDXL12SD: Powered by eight AA alkaline batteries (UM3).
- Features auto power-off management to conserve battery life.
- Physical Interface:
- LCD display size of 52 mm x 38 mm.
- RDXL4SD dimensions: 177 H x 68 W x 45 mm D (7 x 2.7 x 1.9"); weight is 489 g (1.08 lb).
- Input sockets include a 2-pin thermocouple socket for Type K/J/T/E/R/S and an earphone-style socket for Pt 100 Ω RTD.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between the two models in this series is channel capacity and included accessories:
- RDXL4SD vs. RDXL12SD Channel Count: The RDXL4SD provides four measurement channels, while the RDXL12SD expands this to twelve.
- RTD Support: Pt 100 Ω RTD input is available only on the RDXL4SD model (limited to two input channels for RTDs). The RDXL12SD supports thermocouples but does not list RTD capability in its primary specification table.
- Included Probes: Each unit ships with a specific quantity of beaded wire Type K probes matching the channel count (4 or 12).
- Casing and Accessories:
- RDXL4SD includes a soft carrying case.
- RDXL12SD includes a hard carrying case.
- Both models include a 2 GB SD memory card, batteries, and operator's manual. Optional accessories such as the RDXLSD-CONN (RTD connector), data logging software (SW-U101-WIN for RDXL4SD; SW-U811-WIN for RDXL12SD), AC adapters, spare cables, and hard cases are available separately.

Great Data logger
Got two of these for temperature profiling of our freezers, very convenient to set up and use these.
This model did not have an AC adapter - which could be handy especially for long term data recording (or redundancy) to prevent data loss due to battery draining out.
Otherwise, this is a great unit for portability and convenience.

Can this model display max/min for ALL 4 channels simultaneously?
Yes, the meter will display all four channels.

I need thermocouples that can be exposed to direct flame. Which ones would be compatible to this device?
Thank you for your inquiry! You can use bare thermocouple wire rated for the appropriate temperature range to directly measure the temperature of a flame. However, if you plan to measure for an extended duration of time, it would be best to select a thermocouple probe for durability and repeatability of your measurements. Lastly, the thermocouple you choose should have a mini connector to connect into this data logger.

Besides the Temperature Offset, can this unit be calibrated. For example can the A/D converter be calibrated with a precise mV source. If not, what is done when buying with a NIST traceable certificate "-CAL"
The Logger can be returned for a NIST calibration but the procedure is proprietary and not available to send out.

I need to record in liquid nitrogen (-320) do you have any recommendations on probes or if this can record temperatures that low.
Thank you for your inquiry. We believe the best assistance would come from speaking to us directly at 888-826-6342 ask for the Temperature Department Mon. – Fri. (HOURS 8:30AM - 5:00PM EST).

Will the data still be logged after starting the REC and then powering off the unit? Or does the display need to stay on for the logging to occur?
The Logger should be left on when in record mode. When in record mode the meter enters into a low power consumption operation until recording is terminated.
