Supported Applications

The Omega RI, RIO, and RIS series are screw plug immersion heaters designed for small tanks. These cartridge-type heating elements feature rugged construction and are stocked for fast delivery.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates on 120 or 240 Vac, 1 phase power supplies. Models utilize a dead front nylon twist-lock grounded plug with receptacle; the cord is supplied by the user. Power density varies across models and types:

  • Type RI (Incoloy sheath): Surface loading ranges from 30 to 36 W/in².
  • Type RIO (Stainless steel sheath): Surface loading ranges from 20 to 22 W/in².
  • Type RIS (Passivated stainless steel sheath): Surface loading ranges from 28 to 35 W/in².

Weights range from 1 kg (3 lb) to 7 kg (15 lb). The series is Made in USA and carries SR certification. A caution note states that fire and electrical shock may result if products are used improperly or installed by non-qualified personnel.

Configuration Options

The RI-RIO-RIS family offers three distinct configurations based on sheath material, process connection thread type, and available wattage ranges. Voltage is specified in the model number as /120V or /240V (replacing a placeholder asterisk).

Sheath Materials

  • Type RI: 1.6 cm (⅝") or 1.9 cm (¾") Incoloy.
  • Type RIO: 1.6 cm (⅝") or 1.9 cm (¾") stainless steel.
  • Type RIS: 1.6 cm (⅝") passivated stainless steel.

Process Connections

  • Type RI: ½" or ¼" NPT brass screw plug.
  • Type RIO: ½" or ¼" NPT steel screw plug.
  • Type RIS: ½" NPT passivated stainless steel screw plug.

Dimensions and Wattage Envelope

Overall dimensions (A, B, C) vary by model. The series supports wattages from 100 W to 750 W for Type RI; 150 W to 600 W for Type RIO; and 250 W to 750 W for Type RIS.

Key Product Differences

The three types differ primarily in wetted materials and thread composition. Type RI uses an Incoloy sheath with a brass pipe thread connection, offering higher surface loading (up to 36 W/in²). Type RIO utilizes a stainless steel sheath with a steel screw plug, operating at lower surface loads (20–22 W/in²) across both ½" and ¼" NPT sizes. Type RIS is distinguished by its passivated stainless steel sheath and ½" NPT connection only.

Model numbering follows the format Type-Watts/Voltage. For example, RIO-500/240V denotes a 500 W heater with a 1.6 cm (⅝") dia. stainless steel sheath and ½" NPT steel screw plug powered by 240 Vac.
