Supported Applications

The ACI Nickel Pipe Mount Series is a temperature sensor designed for monitoring air and pipe temperatures in commercial heating, ventilation, and cooling systems. The series features a brass sensing enclosure with slight curvature on the bottom to increase surface area and improve thermal conductivity between the pipe and sensor. It is intended for use on pipes or coils ranging from ½" (12.7mm) to 1" (25.4mm) in diameter.

Installation guidelines specify that sensors should be mounted using a supplied nylon wire tie, with recommendations to clean mating surfaces and apply thermal grease between the sensor and pipe for increased conduction. The series is suitable for condensing environments but should not be fully submerged in water or installed near heat sources such as lamps, radiators, direct sunlight, copiers, chimney walls, or walls concealing hot-water pipes.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Nickel Pipe Mount series operates within a temperature range of -40 to 121°C (-40 to 250°F) and supports an operating humidity range of 10 to 95% RH condensing. Storage is specified for temperatures from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). The sensor utilizes a Nickel RTD with a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) following the Din 43760 standard, exhibiting a temperature coefficient of 6370 ppm/°C.

Accuracy specifications vary by operating point:

• -40°C (-40°F): +/- 1.52°C (+/- 2.73°F)
• 0°C (32°F): +/- 0.4°C (+/- 0.72°F)
• 21.1°C (70°F): +/- 0.17°C (+/- 0.34°F)
• 54.4°C (130°F): +/- 0.56°C (1.00°F)
• 121°C (250°F): +/- 1.25°C (+/- 2.25°F)

The series demonstrates a response time of 15 Seconds nominal for a 63% step change and maintains sensor stability of +/− 0.05% after 1000 Hours @ 150°C (302°F). Self-heating is rated at 0.3°C / mW in still air with a maximum operating current of 5 mA.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable lead lengths, wire types, and certification options to accommodate specific installation requirements. Standard configurations include two non-polarity sensitive wires using silver-plated copper conductors insulated with Etched Teflon (PTFE) colored leads rated MIL-W-16878/4 (Type E).

Configuration Options

• Sensor Output: 1000 Ohms nominal at 21.1°C (70°F), with Red/Red lead wire colors.
• Lead Lengths: Standard 24" (61cm); optional 10' (3.05m) or 20' (6.10m).
• Cable Types: Standard Etched Teflon Colored Leads; optional CL2P Plenum Rated Cable.
• NIST Certification: Optional NIST Certificate available for three-point calibration verification.

Housing and Materials

• Enclosure Material: Brass with a double encapsulation process using thermally conductive epoxy to eliminate moisture effects.
• Dimensions: 1.10" (27.9mm) length x 0.375" (9.53mm) diameter; overall lead wire assembly extends to approximately 24 inches or configured lengths.

Accessories and Approvals

The series is approved under CE, RoHS2, and WEEE standards. Note that the 20' length option is not CE Compliant but remains RoHS Compliant. Available accessories include a Hardware 2" Hose Clamp (Item #100235) made of 201/301 Stainless Steel with Quick Release Worm Gear, and Silicone Free Thermal Grease in 2 oz tubes or 16 oz jars.
