Supported Applications

The Omega FV-200 Series is an all-plastic vortex flowmeter designed for corrosive liquids. It utilizes vortex-shedding technology to measure volumetric flow rate in applications involving ultra-pure water, highly corrosive chemicals, and slurries. The meter operates by detecting vortices shed from a bluff body, with frequency proportional to the flow rate.

Media compatibility is limited to clean liquids compatible with plastic materials of construction that do not contain significant amounts of fibers or abrasive materials. Do not use this series with explosive or flammable materials, food or beverages, or gaseous fluids. Pulsating flow will affect accuracy.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FV-200 Series provides a measurement range from 2.3 LPM (0.6 GPM) to 757.1 LPM (200 GPM). Accuracy is specified as ±1% of full scale for the standard 4 to 20 mA output and ±2% of full scale for frequency pulse outputs with the "P" option. Repeatability is rated at ±0.25% actual flow.

Process temperature ratings depend on construction material: High Temperature models support up to 95°C (203°F). Maximum operating pressure ranges from 1.6 bar (24 psi) to 10.3 bar (150 psi), varying by material and fluid temperature as defined in the Pressure—Temperature Ratings table.

Response time is a minimum of 2 seconds for a step change in flow. The series requires straight piping runs; horizontal flow configurations with sensing elements in vertical orientation require specific pipe diameters based on configuration (e.g., 20 or 27 pipe diameters depending on plane changes and outlet valves).

Configuration Options

The series is available in sizes from ¼ to 2 NPT thread connections. Wetted materials include PVC, CPVC, and PVDF for corrosion resistance.

  • Housing: Corrosion-resistant plastic with a NEMA 4X (IP 66) enclosure rating.
  • Outputs: Standard two-wire loop-powered 4 to 20 mA; optional frequency pulse output (source-sink driver, 1A source / 1.5A sink).
  • Power Supply: Operates on 13 to 30 Vdc.
  • Electrical Connection: ½ NPT female conduit connection; a 3-pin connection option is noted in supporting documentation.

Options include adding the suffix "-P" for pulse output (no additional charge) and the suffix "-HT" for high temperature CPVC or PVDF models (additional cost). An unregulated 24 Vdc power supply (PSU-93) is available as an accessory.

Key Product Differences

The FV-200 Series distinguishes variants by construction material and connection size. Models with the "FV-2XX" prefix utilize CPVC construction, while models with the "FV-3XX" prefix utilize PVDF construction.

  • CPVC Construction (FV-221 to FV-226): Available in ¼ NPT through 2 NPT sizes. Flow ranges from 2.3 LPM (0.6 GPM) minimum on the ¼" model up to 757.1 LPM (200 GPM) maximum on the 2" model.
  • PVDF Construction (FV-231 to FV-236): Available in matching NPT sizes with identical minimum and maximum flow ranges as their CPVC counterparts.

High temperature capability is indicated by the "-HT" suffix. Pulse output functionality is enabled via the "-P" suffix, which does not alter the base model number structure but changes the signal type to a frequency pulse with typical output resistance of 10 Ω.
