Supported Applications

The Omega RTD-NPT Series consists of Dual Element and single-element Pipe Plug RTD Sensors designed for temperature measurement in pressure vessel applications. These probes are engineered to operate at pressures up to 172 bar (2500 psi) Max.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series utilizes high-accuracy 100 Ω Class 'A' DIN platinum sensing elements with a 3-wire construction suitable for handheld instruments. Process temperature capabilities span two primary ranges depending on the cable insulation: up to 230°C (450°F) and up to 480°C (896°F). The probe features an SST (Stainless Steel) sheath, with a stem length of 12.7 mm (0.5") and a diameter of 6 mm (0.24"). Wetted materials include the Stainless Steel Probe and Nickel-plated copper conductors.

Cable Insulation & Temperature Ratings

Cable insulation is selected based on the maximum operating temperature:

  • PFA insulated lead wires: Used for models rated to 230°C (450°F).
  • Fiberglass insulated cables: Used for high-temperature models rated to 480°C (896°F), designated with the '-HT' suffix.
  • SST braided fiberglass insulation: Available on specific dual-element configurations, such as RTD-NPT-72-E-DUAL-1/4-MTP-HT-S.

Termination Options & Connectors

The series supports various electrical terminations. Standard options include MTP connectors and OTP connectors (add '-OTP' to model number). TA3F Audio Connectors are available by adding the '-TA3F' suffix, while stripped leads can be specified by removing the connector designation from the model number.

Sensor Configurations

The series is available in both single-element and dual-element configurations.

  • Dual Element RTD Pipe Plug Sensors: Identified by the '-DUAL' designation in model numbers.
  • Single Element Pipe Plug RTD Sensor: Standard configuration without the '-DUAL' suffix.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction within the series is between single-element and dual-element sensing configurations. Dual-element models, such as those in the 'RTD-NPT-72-E-DUAL...' family, provide two independent 100 Ω Class 'A' DIN elements within a single probe body.

Model Number Construction

The series follows a specific model number guide: RTD - NPT - Cable Length - Temperature Coefficient - Mounting Thread - Termination Option - Temperature Range - Cable Option. For example, RTD-NPT-72-E-DUAL-1/8-MTP-HT-S denotes a dual-element probe with 72" cable length, E coefficient, 1/8 NPT thread, MTP connector, high temperature rating (HT), and SST braided fiberglass insulation.

Accessory Compatibility

The series is compatible with various Omega instrumentation including the CN1A meter, DP461-RTD panel meter, iDRX/iDRN signal conditioners, DRF-RTD signal conditioner, CN3271-R1 high/low limit controller, DP25B-RTD ¼ DIN panel meter, SPRTX 4 to 20 mA transmitter, and TX92 transmitter. All accessories are sold separately.

Can the Pipe Plug RTD Probes with NPT Fitting and Lead Wire come in custom lengths? What is the maximum length available?

Is this RTD probe a good option for mixing vessels that will be under vacuum or would a thermocouple probe be a better option? I am concerned about the noise interference
