Supported Applications

The Omega RPLC Series consists of Parallel Pneumatic Grippers designed for precision gripping in clean room and harsh environments. These low-profile grippers feature a Class 10 Clean Room rating with corrosion-resistant shielding, making them suitable for applications requiring contamination control or resistance to corrosive atmospheres.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The RPLC Series operates on dry filtered air within a pressure range of 0.3 to 7 bar (5 to 100 psi). Ambient operating temperatures span -35 to 80°C (-30 to 180°F) for standard seals; this range extends to -30 to 120°C (-20 to 250°F) when configured with FKM seals. The series delivers an accuracy of ±0.05 mm (±0.002") and a repeatability of ±0.03 mm (±0.001"). Actuation times range from 0.10 sec to 0.14 sec depending on the model size.

Performance specifications vary by model stroke:

  • RPLC-1M: Total Rated Grip Force of 116 N (26 lb) at 7 bar, with a 6.4 mm (0.25") stroke.
  • RPLC-2M: Total Rated Grip Force of 116 N (26 lb) at 7 bar, with a 12.7 mm (0.50") stroke.
  • RPLC-3M: Total Rated Grip Force of 160 N (36 lb) at 7 bar, with a 19.1 mm (0.75") stroke.

Loading capacities are defined per set of jaws and include static/dynamic limits for tensile force, compressive force, and moments Mx, My, and Mz. For example, the RPLC-3M supports a Maximum Tensile load of 400 N (90 lbs) STATIC and 133 N (30 lbs) DYNAMIC.

Configuration Options

The series is constructed with a one-piece lightweight aluminum body featuring hard-coat anodize 60 RC with PTFE impregnation. Preloaded V roller bearings provide precision gripping and support up to 5 million cycles with maintenance.

Configuration options include:

  • Sensor Options: NPN magneto resistive sensor short barrel (OHSN-017) or PNP magneto resistive sensor short barrel (OHSP-017), both with quick disconnect fittings.
  • Mounting & Cabling: Sensor mounting kit (OSMK-008); 2 m (6') extension cable (CABL-010) or 5 m (16') extension cable (CABL-013).
  • Valves: M5 fail safe valve (OFSV-004).
  • Jaw Configurations: Standard synchronous jaws are included; non-synchronous motion is available upon consultation with sales.
  • Seal Options: FKM seals for extended temperature ranges, designated by adding '-V' to the part number.

A 4-way, 2-position valve and regulator are required to actuate the gripper. Tooling is not included; customer-supplied fingers and adapter plates must be used within maximum effective finger length limits.

Key Product Differences

The RPLC Series differentiates models by stroke, grip force, weight, and physical dimensions:

  • RPLC-1M: Body length 48.3 mm (1.9 in), height 29.5 mm (1.163 in), depth 19.1 mm (0.750 in); weight 0.07 Kg (0.16 lb).
  • RPLC-2M: Body length 62.9 mm (2.475 in), height 29.5 mm (1.163 in), depth 19.1 mm (0.750 in); weight 0.09 Kg (0.20 lb).
  • RPLC-3M: Body length 83.4 mm (3.282 in), height 32.6 mm (1.283 in), depth 22.2 mm (.875 in); weight 0.15 Kg (0.32 lb).

Model numbers follow the format RPLC-M, where size corresponds to the model number (e.g., RPLC-2M). Capacities listed are per set of jaws and do not represent simultaneous loading across multiple axes.
