Supported Applications

The Omega RD8250 Series is a paperless recorder designed for industrial process monitoring. It functions as a solid-state data recorder and panel indicator, replacing traditional paper recorders by storing historic data on CompactFlash™ memory cards to eliminate issues with jamming, ink smudging, or pen clogging. The instrument supports real-time trend viewing and digital readouts for applications requiring the measurement of voltage, current, thermocouples, RTDs, frequency, and speed inputs.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The RD8250 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). Relative humidity is rated at 80% for temperatures up to 31°C (88°F), decreasing linearly to 50% @ 40°C (104°F). The device is specified for indoor use only, meeting Installation Category II per IEC 664 and Pollution Degree Level II per IEC61010-1.

Performance specifications vary by input type:

  • DC Voltage Accuracy: 0.1% of reading
  • DC Current Accuracy: 0.1% of reading (excluding 250 Ω external shunt)
  • Thermocouple Accuracy: 0.3% FS (typical) for types J, K, T, and E
  • RTD Accuracy: 0.3% FS (typical) for 100 Ω Pt 385 and 100 Ω Pt 392 sensors
  • Frequency Input Range: 0 to 10,000 Hz or 0 to 600,000 rpm with ±1 Hz accuracy for frequency and ±1 rpm below 9999 rpm (±10 rpm above) for speed
  • Ambient Temperature Sensor Accuracy: ±1.5°C (2.7°F)

Data storage capacity reaches up to 2 Gigabytes on CompactFlash™ cards, with a measurement rate of up to 100 samples/s per channel.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable inputs and outputs tailored for specific process needs. Key capabilities include:

  • Inputs: Two universal, user-selectable isolated channels supporting DC Voltage (0 to 25V ranges), DC Current (0/4 to 20 mA or 0 to 50 mA), Thermocouples (J, K, T, E), RTDs (100 Ω Pt 385/Pt 392), Frequency, and Speed.
  • Outputs: Two alarm relay outputs rated at 30 V and 0.5 A form 'A' relays; one opto-isolated digital control input activated by 5 to 12 Vdc @ 10 mA typical.
  • Data Storage & Display: LCD graphics display (160 x 80 pixels) with user-controlled backlight and contrast. Data is stored on CompactFlash™ cards ranging from 512 MB to 2 GB.
  • Power Options: Models support external AC power via a universal adaptor or isolated DC input, with an optional internal battery pack for uninterrupted operation during blackouts.

The RD8250 Series is differentiated by model number and available options:

  • RD8252: Paperless recorder with 2 inputs, powered by an external AC wall transformer (100 to 240 Vac, 50/60 Hz) providing 9 ±0.5 Vdc @ 5 VA.
  • RD8253: Paperless recorder with 2 inputs, designed for isolated DC power supply of 12 to 24 Vdc (not compatible with the internal battery pack option).

  • -UPS: Rechargeable battery pack providing up to 8 hours typical operation during power loss for RD8252 units.

Memory card is not working with recorder I get warning to format the memory card. However the card is already formatted as it is readable with my computer. So I go to the advanced menu and choose format then I get a new error 'Card Access error' need help

The RD8252 accepts compact flash cards up to 2GB. If having issues formatting a larger sized card, format the card to FAT or FAT16 on a PC. Cards formatted to FAT32 or NTFS may not be read properly by the RD8252.

Hi !! I have brand new CompactFlash cards who work on a couple of our recorders only. When i look at the Firmware version, recorders who work are Firmware 1.1 Rev.9. Bad one are Rev 8 and older. Can i update the firmware on my older tools ???

This unit boasts the ability to display a trend line/history. Is the length of time user adjustable or is it hard coded? (e.g. last 24 hours vs. 1 hour?)

i have an rd8250 and can't connect to it with navigator. seems a driver issue with windows 10. is there a work around or an update to the program?
