Supported Applications

The Omega OM-CP-RFOT-A is a two-way wireless meat cooking and cooling data logger developed for the meat industry. Its rugged design and flexible piercing probe allow it to be used in the harshest environments, making it well suited to smoke houses, ovens and other cooking processes up to 212 °F (100 °C), as well as refrigerators and freezers down to -4 °F (-20 °C).

The logger is completely splash proof and can withstand wash down cycles, so it is appropriate for food processing environments where sanitation and frequent cleaning are required. It assists in complying with HACCP requirements as well as USDA regulations. Users can also set up real-time wireless alarming within the software, so that they are notified by email or text if an alarm condition has been met or exceeded.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The OM-CP-RFOT-A measures temperature over a probe range of -50 °C to +200 °C (-58 °F to +392 °F) with a resolution of 0.01 °C (0.018 °F). Calibrated accuracy is ±0.1 °C at 0 °C to 100 °C (±0.18 °F at 32 °F to 212 °F) and ±0.5 °C (±0.9 °F) outside of that range.

The recommended operating environment is -20 °C to +100 °C (-4 °F to 212 °F), 0 %RH to 100 %RH non-condensing, and the enclosure carries an IP67 rating. Time accuracy is ±10 second / month (at 25 °C), and recorded data is date and time stamped in °C, °F, K, °R.

Communication is fully bi-directional over a 2.45 GHz IEEE 802.15.4 ultra-low power wireless transceiver operating in the ISM band 2.405-2.475 GHz. Maximum output power is +0 dBm and receiver sensitivity is -95 dBm. Transmission distance reaches 2000 ft max. outdoors (line of sight unobstructed) and 500 ft max. indoors.

Memory holds 21,504 readings with software configurable memory wrap, and the reading rate is selectable from one reading every two seconds to one every 24 hours. The included 3.6 V lithium battery is user replaceable and delivers up to 2 years of battery life at a 15 second reading rate. The computer interface is USB (interface cable required) at 115,200 baud.

Configuration Options

This series is offered as a single logger configuration, the OM-CP-RFOT-A. It is equipped with a flexible piercing probe with a 4 in (102 mm) stem length and a 0.188 in (4.8 mm) diameter. The body measures 7.8 in x 1.62 in dia. (198 mm x 41 mm dia.) and the unit weighs 8.8 oz (250 g). The housing is molded from Radel R-5100, and wetted materials are Radel R-5100 and Silicone Polyurethane.

The logger uses two-way wireless communication that requires a wireless interface, which is ordered separately. Three interface options extend the deployment: the OM-CP-RFC1000-EXT and the CE-approved OM-CP-RFC1000-EXT-EUR RF transceiver/repeaters, and the splash-proof OM-CP-RFC1000-IP69K, which carries an IP69K rating. A user-replaceable OM-CP-BAT109 battery is available as a replacement part. The device holds CE, US (FCC) and CA (IC) approvals.
