Supported Applications

The OMEGALUX® MT-2 Series is a rugged, general-purpose immersion heater designed for use in clean liquids within the 6 to 8 pH range. The series features a copper sheath and serves as an electric heating solution where media compatibility requires this specific wetted material.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MT-2 Series operates with power options of 120, 208, 240, and 480 V; 1-phase. Wattage ratings span from 1.5 to 15 kW. The heater includes a 2 NPT brass screw plug for process connection and utilizes a copper sheath with a diameter of 1.2 cm (0.475"). Safe operation requires the use of an approved temperature control device.

Safety and Approvals

• General Purpose Enclosures (E1): UL listed with general purpose enclosure; CSA NRTL/C certified for general-purpose enclosures.
• Moisture-Resistant/Explosion-Resistant Enclosures (E2): CSA NRTL/C certified for moisture-resistant and explosion-resistant enclosures.
• Hazardous Area Limitation: Not intended for use in hazardous areas, except models exceeding 48 amps. Heaters with general purpose and moisture-resistant enclosures are UL listed and CSA certified, except models exceeding 48 amps.

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across wattage, voltage, enclosure type, and heating element count to meet specific installation requirements. Model numbers follow the format MT-<kW> - <Voltage Designation> - <Enclosure Type>.

Wattage and Element Configuration

• 1.5 kW: 1 heating element, surface loading 48 W/in².
• 2 kW: Available with 1 or 2 heating elements; surface loadings of 48 W/in² (single) and 51 W/in² (dual).
• 2.5 to 6 kW: Configured with 2 heating elements.
• 7 kW: Available in two dimensional configurations: Dim B of 71 cm (28") or 103 cm (40½").
• 10 to 15 kW: Configured with 2 heating elements; surface loadings range from 46 W/in² to 50 W/in².

Voltage Selection

To designate voltage in the model number, insert "120" for 120V, "208" for 208V, "240" for 240V, or "480" for 480V. Specific models may have restricted voltage options:

• 7 kW Models (MT-270): Available at 240 V and 480 V.
• 15 kW Models (MT-2150): Available at 240 V and 480 V.
• Other Wattages: Generally available across the full voltage range depending on enclosure type.

Enclosure Options

• E1 General Purpose Enclosure: NEMA 1 (IP00). Dimensions include a minimum hole size of 5.7 cm (2-1/4"). Overall dimensions vary by wattage, with Dim B ranging from 30 cm (12") for the 1.5 kW model to 137 cm (54") for the 15 kW model.
• E2 Moisture-Resistant / Explosion-Resistant Enclosure: Optional type E2 enclosure provides moisture resistance and explosion-resistant ratings. Dimensions include a minimum hole size of 5.7 cm (2-1/4"). Overall dimensions vary by wattage, with Dim B ranging from 30 cm (12") for the 1.5 kW model to 137 cm (54") for the 15 kW model.

Key Product Differences

The MT-2 Series distinguishes itself through two primary enclosure types and specific dimensional variations based on wattage and element count. The E1 general-purpose enclosure is lighter in weight compared to the E2 moisture-resistant/explosion-resistant enclosure for equivalent wattages.

Enclosure Distinctions

• E1 (General Purpose): Designed for standard indoor environments with NEMA 1 (IP00) rating. Weights range from 1 kg (3 lb) at lower wattages to 4 kg (9 lb) at higher wattages.
• E2 (Moisture-Resistant/Explosion-Resistant): Designed for environments requiring moisture resistance or explosion-resistant ratings per CSA NRTL/C certification. Weights range from 3 kg (6 lb) to 5.4 kg (12 lb).

Voltage and Wattage Constraints

Certain high-wattage models are restricted in their voltage availability or require specific model suffixes:

• 7 kW Models: The MT-270 series is listed specifically for 240 V and 480 V configurations.
• 15 kW Models: The MT-2150 series is listed specifically for 240 V and 480 V configurations, with a footnote indicating specific voltage designation rules apply (insert "208", "240" or "480").
• Asterisk Notation: Models marked with an asterisk (*) in the ordering table require inserting the voltage code to complete the model number. Models marked with double asterisks (**) follow a similar designation rule but may have specific certification limitations regarding hazardous areas.
