Supported Applications

The Omega EchoPro® LR46 is an intrinsically safe, two-wire pulse radar level transmitter designed for continuous measurement of dry solid media. The series targets challenging environments characterized by significant to extreme dust conditions. Documented applications include the monitoring of aggregates, grains, pellets, powders, and building materials in silos.

The LR46 is specifically engineered for solids with strong dew, dust, or crystal formation where measurement ranges exceed 98.4 feet (30m). It operates at atmospheric pressure conditions suitable for these solid media applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The EchoPro® LR46 utilizes a 26 GHz pulse radar frequency to achieve a maximum measurement range of 12" to 229.7 feet (30cm to 70m). Measurement accuracy is specified as ±15mm, with a dead band factory set at 12" (30cm) that can be lowered to 2" from the bottom of the antenna.

Performance parameters include:

  • Process Temperature: -40° to 752°F (-40° to 400°C)
  • Ambient/Storage Temperature: -40° to 176°F (-40° to 80°C) for storage; operating ambient aligns with process limits.
  • Enclosure Rating: IP67
  • Power Supply: 21.6 to 26.4 VDC (Max consumption: 22.5 mA)
  • Response Time: About 1 sec, dependent on configuration settings.

The sensor features automatic temperature compensation and non-volatile memory for parameter retention.

Configuration Options

The LR46 series offers configurable antenna sizes to optimize beam angles for specific vessel geometries. The standard process connection is a 4" gimbal flange (ANSI), allowing for easy positioning of the sensor within the mounting point.

  • Antenna Options:
  • 8" (196mm) parabolic antenna providing a 5° beam angle
  • 10" (246mm) parabolic antenna providing a 4° beam angle

Housing and Materials:

  • The enclosure is constructed from 316L stainless steel with a silicone gasket.
  • Wetted materials include 316L SS & PTFE for the antenna assembly.
  • An electrical connection via (1) 1/2" NPT connector supports two-wire installation.

Hazardous Location Approvals:

The series carries multiple certifications including ATEX II 2G Ex ia IIC T6...T3 Ga, IECEx ia IIC T6...T3 Ga, and CSA Class I, Div 1 (Groups A, B, C & D) / Class II, Div 1 (Groups E, F & G). It is also approved for Zone 0/20 applications: Ex ia IIC (T6...T3) Ga & Ex ia IIIC (T76°C to T146°C) Da.

Key Product Differences

The LR46 distinguishes itself within the EchoPro® family by its specific design for extreme dust conditions and extended ranges over 98.4 feet (30m), whereas other models in the series address normal pressure or lower range requirements.

  • LR36: Designed for solids with normal temperature/pressure under 32.8' (10m); max range 49.2' (15m) using an 8° horn antenna; accuracy ±10mm.
  • LR41: Intended for solids with dew/dust/crystal under 98.4' (30m); max range 229.7' (70m) using an 8° horn antenna; accuracy ±15mm.
  • LR46: Optimized for strong dust environments or ranges over 98.4' (30m); utilizes a parabolic antenna (5° or 4° beam angle) to maintain signal integrity in challenging conditions; max range 229.7 feet (70m).

Configuration is performed via an integral push button display module with LCD dot matrix output, showing units in feet and meters, percent of span bar graph, or echo signal curve.
