- Standard Element Sheath Materials
- Incoloy® 800 — A Nickel (30 to 35%), Chromium (19 to 23%), Iron alloy. The high nickel content of this alloy contributes to its resistance to scaling and corrosion. Used in air heating (also see Incoloy® 840) and immersion heating of potable water and other liquids that are not corrosive to an Incoloy® 800 sheath.
- Low Carbon Steel — Applications include fluid heat transfer media, tar, high to low viscosity petroleum oils, asphalt, wax, molten salt, and other solutions not corrosive to a steel sheath.
- 316 Stainless Steel — A Chromium (16 to 18%), Nickel (11 to 14%), Iron Alloy with Molybdenum (2 to 3%) added to improve corrosion resistance in certain environments, especially those that would tend to cause pitting due to the presence of chlorides. Applications include deionized water.

Supported Applications
The Omega CHF Series Heat Transfer Oil and Paraffin Circulation Heater consists of self-contained heating units designed for optimum operating efficiency. These circulation heaters transfer heat generated by elements immediately to the medium being processed with minimal losses.
Documented applications include:
- Air heating
- Immersion heating of potable water and other liquids not corrosive to Incoloy® 800
- Fluid heat transfer media, tar, high to low viscosity petroleum oils, asphalt, wax, molten salt
- Deionized water
- Clean water for washrooms, showers, rinse tanks, and freeze protection
- Food industry sterilizing solutions
- Many organic and inorganic chemicals
The series supports specific watt densities tailored to media viscosity: 8 watts/in² (1.3 watts/cm²) for fuel oils such as Bunker C and Number 6, and 23 watts/in² (3.6 watts/cm²) for lightweight oils, degreasing solutions, and heat transfer oils.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CHF Series operates with a process temperature up to 399°C (750°F). Electrical power supply options include 120V, 240V-1Ph, 240V-3Ph, 480V-1Ph, and 480V-3Ph. Branch circuit wiring for flange heater elements is configured with a maximum current of 48 Amps.
Process connections vary by unit size:
- NPT pipe threads are standard for units ranging from 76 to 203 mm (3 to 8")
- 150 lb rated flanges with raised face are standard on 254 mm (10") and larger units; optional stainless steel flanges or 300 lb ratings are available.
The outer jacket is constructed of stainless steel sheet metal to protect insulation from the environment. Optional configurations include a stainless steel outer jacket with a weather-tight seal.
Configuration Options
The CHF Series offers configurable dimensions, materials, and safety features across its model range (e.g., Drawing 2 through Drawing 14). Key selection parameters include:
- Nominal Pipe Size & Power Ratings: Models span from 2½ NPT to 14" flange sizes with power ratings ranging from 2 KW up to 200 KW depending on voltage and phase.
- Sheath Materials: Available in Incoloy® 800, Low Carbon Steel, 316 Stainless Steel, Copper, 304 Stainless Steel, 321 Stainless Steel, Incoloy® 840, and Incoloy® 825.
- Wetted Materials: SA53B or SA106B steel is standard; stainless steel is optional.
- Housing & Enclosure Ratings: General purpose (NEMA 1) terminal housing is standard. Optional enclosures include Moisture proof (NEMA 4), explosion resistant (NEMA 7), and combined NEMA 4/7 ratings.
Additional options accessible for the series include double-pole non-indicating bulb and capillary type thermostats, solid state temperature controllers, jacket thermostats, over-temperature protection via thermocouple, custom supports, additional insulation or high temperature ceramic fiber insulation, stainless steel vessels, flow control baffles, and terminal housing standoff construction.
Key Product Differences
The CHF Series model number follows the format: Nominal Pipe Size - Voltage - Phase - Number of Branch Circuits. For example, models such as CHF01384 through CHF01391 represent 10" to 14" units with varying element counts (27, 36, or 45 elements) and power outputs.
Dimensional variations are defined by specific drawing numbers corresponding to the nominal pipe size. For instance:
- Drawing 2 covers 2½ NPT sizes
- Drawing 10 covers 10"—150 lb units with dimensions such as "A" = 89 inch (2261 mm) for Drawing 10.3 and up to 104 inch (2642 mm) for Drawing 10.5
- Drawing 14 covers 14"—150 lb units with dimensions ranging from "A" = 89 5/8 inch (2276 mm) to 104 5/8 inch (2657 mm)
Approximate weights vary significantly by model, ranging from 17 kg for smaller units up to 427 kg for larger configurations. Mounting lug design and location are standard per assembly drawings but can be modified to fit customer installation requirements upon consultation.
