Supported Applications

The Omega Metric OMEGACLAD™ Thermocouple Wire series provides mineral-insulated, metal-sheathed thermocouple wire for temperature sensing applications. The product consists of a metal sheath containing high-purity magnesium oxide (MgO) insulation and internal thermocouple wires.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series is available in diameters ranging from 0.25 to 8.0 mm. A technical note specifies that the compacted magnesium oxide used as insulation is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture). The wire bends easily, facilitating installation.

Sheath Materials

 • 304 Stainless Steel
 • 310 SS
 • 316 SS
 • 321 SS
 • Inconel® 600
 • Super OMEGACLAD™ XL Sheaths

Thermocouple Types

 • Type E (CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™)
 • Type J
 • Type K
 • Type N (available with Inconel sheath; change "K" in model number to "N")
 • Type T

Configuration Options

The series supports a wide range of configurations defined by the model number format: <Sheath Material Code> - <Wire Calibration> - MO - <Sheath Diameter in mm>. Lengths are specified in meters with a minimum order of 5 meters. OMEGACLAD™ wire is supplied to ±10% of the specified length.

Special Options

 • Special Limits of Error: Add suffix "SLE" to the model number; adds 20% to price.
 • Hastelloy-X Sheath: Change "304" in the Model Number to "HASTX" (consult Sales for price).
 • Custom Assemblies: Special sheathing, insulation, and thermocouple alloys are available on special order.

Key Product Differences

Variants differ by the combination of sheath material code (e.g., 304, 310, 316, 321, INC for Inconel), thermocouple calibration letter (E, J, K, N, T), and diameter in millimeters. The "SLE" suffix denotes a Special Limits of Error configuration.

Ordering Example

Model number 304-K-MO-1.5MM-10 represents 10 m of Type K CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™ wire with a 304 SS sheath and 1.5 mm diameter.

Accessories

A Thermocouple Wire Stripper is available for metal-sheathed or OMEGACLAD™ wire (see PST Series Strippers).

Does the wire come with the thermocouple on the end? if not, what thermocouple end is recommended?

Asked by: dylana
These are purely a Thermocouple cable with no welded junction. The customer can weld and create there own junctions as needed or look at the BLMI series as an alternative.

How long is the wire? (or, what is the price per unit length?)

Asked by: maxm
The cable assembly is sold per meter. Cost is listed above.

How can I stripper the sheath to expose the thermocouple wire to a junction and make the connection at the other end? I have got the 0.25 mm OD wire

Asked by: EGR124
Thank you for your inquiry. We use a small spot welder with larger copper contacts that will "FLASH STRIP" the sheathing and not damage the wires so a junction can be made.

Does this come with the brass end to lock into thermocouple?

Asked by: Trroyy
Thanks for your inquiry. This item does not come with the thermocouple but is sold separately. Please see the attached link for the fitting. https://www.omega.com/en-us/valves-pumps-and-mixers/pipe-and-tube-fittings/p/MTA-BRLK-SSLK-RA-RB

Is this wire considered thermocouple grade or extension grade? The T type temperature range is generally considered to be -240c to 300c, is there a reason that this temperature rating starts at 0?

Asked by: Anthony
Thank you for connecting with Omega. Part number 304-T-MO-3.0MM is thermocouple grade and made with standard limit of error wire. This wire will measure temperatures down to -200 deg C. The accuracy is the greater of +/- 1.0 deg C or 0.75% of reading for temperatures between 0 and 315 deg C. For temperatures between -200 and 0 deg C the accuracy is the greater of +/- 1.0 deg C or 1.5% of reading.
