Supported Applications
The Omega D3000 and D4000 series are self-contained computer-to-analog output interfaces designed for remote mounting. These OMEGABUS® modules communicate via RS-232 or RS-485 serial ports using ASCII commands to control a 12-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The series is engineered to provide basic step-function outputs with fixed scaling in the D3000 models, while the D4000 series adds intelligent features including controlled slew rates, analog readback for integrity verification, programmable scaling, and a watchdog timer. These modules are compatible with OMEGABUS® D1000 and D2000 systems, allowing up to 124 modules on one set of wires.
Important safety note: The D3000/4000 modules are not intrinsically safe devices. They should not be used in explosive environments unless enclosed in approved explosion-proof housings. Additionally, these products are not designed for use in human applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 to 70°C (-13 to 158°F) and a storage temperature range of -25 to 85°C (-13 to 185°F). Relative humidity is rated for 0 to 95% non-condensing. The modules feature input isolation of 500 V rms.
Performance specifications include:
- Resolution: 12-bit measurement resolution
- Accuracy: 0.1% FSR (maximum) for integral and differential non-linearity
- Zero Drift: ±30 µV/°C (voltage output); ±1.0 µA/°C (current output)
- Conversion Rate: 1,000 conversions per second
- Settling Time: To 0.1% FS in 300 µs typical (1 ms maximum)
- Voltage Compliance: ±12 V
The modules are powered by an unregulated supply of 10 V to 30 Vdc, with power consumption up to 0.75 W for voltage output models and 1.0 W maximum for current output models.
Configuration Options
The D3000-D4000 series offers a broad envelope of configurable outputs, communication protocols, and intelligent features to meet specific system requirements.
Analog Output Ranges
Modules are available with single-channel analog output in the following voltage and current ranges:
- Voltage Outputs: 0 to 1 V, ±1 V, 0 to 5 V, ±5 V, 0 to 10 V, ±10 V
- Current Outputs: 0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA
Digital Inputs & Communications
All models include three digital inputs with internal pull-up resistors for direct switch input. Switching levels are defined as High (3.5 V minimum) and Low (1.0 V maximum), with voltage tolerance of ±30 V without damage.
- Protocols: RS232 or RS485
- Baud Rates: 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19.2K, 38.4K selectable via software command
- Parity: Odd, even, or none
- Distance: Up to 15.2 m (50') for RS232; up to 10,000 feet with RS485 modules and A1000 converter/repeater
Housing & Connections
The enclosure is constructed of ABS material with captive mounting hardware. Electrical connections utilize a supplied screw terminal barrier plug connector.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between the two series lies in their functional intelligence and control capabilities:
- D3000 Series: Provides basic functions with step-function outputs and fixed scaling. Models include D31xx (voltage) and D325x (current).
- D4000 Series: Includes all D3000 capabilities plus intelligent features such as a programmable output slew rate ranging from 0.01 V/s to 10,000 V/s, an on-board watchdog timer that resets the module to a default value upon communication failure, and analog readback via an 8-bit ADC for integrity verification.
Model numbers indicate series (D3 or D4), output range code, and input type. The last digit of the model number denotes the serial interface: '1' indicates RS232C, while '2' indicates RS485. For example, D3141 is a ±10V module with RS232C, whereas D4142 is a ±10V module with RS485 and intelligent features.
Optional accessories include the A1000 (RS232 to RS485 converter) and A1000-CABLE (RS232 9-pin cable). Utility software (D1000-SW) is available for free download. To order transmitters with Modbus RTU protocol, add the suffix 'M' at the end of the model number.
