Supported Applications

Vision Turbine Meters — Models BV1000, BV2000, and BV3000 — are designed for flow measurement of low-viscosity, aggressive, and non-aggressive liquids. They comply with the lead-free provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act and are certified to NSF/ANSI Standards 61 and 372, making them well suited to food, medical, chemical/pharma, industrial, and automotive applications.

Typical media include demineralized water, alkaline solutions, oils, salad oil, fuel and fuel consumption metering, beverages, water solutions, and coolants. Wetted materials include PA12 Trogamid (NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 certified), Brass CuZn38Al-C, PA12 Ferrite, and Graphite/PTFE, and the meters also carry KTW and W270 approval for drinking water, use FDA approved materials, and meet 21 CFR 175.300.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Across the series, accuracy is ± 3% of reading with repeatability of < 0.50 % under the same operating conditions. The meters handle liquids of up to 16 cSt viscosity and operate over a temperature range of -20...100° C. Operating pressure is 25 bar with a burst pressure of 200 bar. A filter of 20...40 microns is recommended upstream.

Flow ranges scale with meter size, from 0.1...2.5 lpm on the smallest bore up through 0.5...5 lpm, 0.5...7.5 lpm, 1...10 lpm, 1...15 lpm, 1...25 lpm, 2...35 lpm, and 5...65 lpm on the largest. Corresponding K-factors run from 22,000 ppl down to 210 ppl as bore size increases.

The output is an NPN sinking open collector rated at Max. 20 mA (pull-up resistor required), powered from 5...24V DC with power consumption of ~8 mA. Electrical connection is via a round cable, 3 x AWG 24, with free cable ends or a 3-pin (2.8 x 0.5) mini DIN connector to EN 60529 (mating connector included). Process connections are offered as 1/4 in. NPT or G 1/4 in. (BSPP), 3/8 in. NPT or G 3/8 in. (BSPP), and 3/4 in. NPT or G 3/4 in. (BSPP).

Configuration Options

The three base models differ primarily in bore size and flow capacity. The BV1000 is the smallest, built around a 5 mm DN bore for very low flows and the highest resolution (up to 22,000 ppl). The BV2000 spans the broad middle of the range with DN bores of 6 mm, 8 mm, and related sizes covering flows from about 0.5...5 lpm to 2...35 lpm. The BV3000 uses the largest 12 mm DN bore for the top 5...65 lpm range with a K-factor of 210 ppl.

Within each model, part numbers encode material, end connection, flow range, and electrical connection. The TRG and TRN designators identify the wetted-material build, the numeric code (025 through 650) sets the flow range, and the trailing A or B suffix selects the electrical connection style — either free cable ends or the mini DIN connector. All variants share the same ± 3% accuracy, 25 bar operating pressure, and NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 certification.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent little meter for low-flow applications. A compact, well made, and very precise device. Wiring it up took about 15 minutes, and it integrates easily into any device that can measure square-wave frequency or count pulses. Very satisfied with the devices precision.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Plug & Play I purchased this sensor under the assumption that I could connect in to my OMB-DAQ-2408 and read the frequency of pulses through DAQami. Although DAQami supports frequency on counter channels, this feature wasn't available for my device. After spending 10hrs screwing about and downloading DASYlab, I called customer support. They recommended I buy a 500$ signal conditioner. Reminder-- This 125$ sensor also needs an external pull up resistor because it would've been too expensive to integrate inside the device. I understand that Omega does not create these devices or any of the software but it was a very frustrating experience that could've been avoided with a better shop page.

Do you have any advice on wiring the pull-up resistor with an Arduino? I have tried and can't get my Arduino to read the signal from the brown wire, all I get are zeros. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but would love any resources you could provide.

Asked by: Plis
Thank you for your inquiry. A customer supplied pull-up resistor of 1.2 ~ 2.2 KOhm, 1/4 Watt between Red & Brown and should be able to have your Arduino sense the pulse.

I would like to use a Raspberry Pi to count the pulses, but the Raspberry Pi GPIO uses 3.3 V logic. The data sheet indicates an input voltage range of 5-24 V. What is the amplitude of the output pulses?

Asked by: Gregory B
Thank you for your inquiry! The amplitude of the output will match that of the supply voltage used with the unit. If a 5V supply is used the square wave will reach and amplitude of 5V and then drop to 0V.

Can I use BV1000-TRN-025-A for a very low flow ---like 0.5 lpm. What is the resolution or how low a flow rate can it accurately read?

Asked by: Jim_Bek
Thank you for your inquiry. The flow meter can measure that low and the accuracy is +/- 3% of reading which means the value measured, the accuracy is 3% of that number.

What is the sampling rate?

Asked by: Charles Chip III
Thank you for your inquiry. The sampling rate for this flow meter is instantaneous as a result of the frequency output.

Are these flow meters chemical resitant?

Asked by: Gera
Thank you for your inquiry. Chemical compatibility is the responsibility of customers to check against the wetted materials of the flow meter to the liquid being measured. If it is not a corrosive liquid, then, it is or will be compatible.

What is the conversion between the output frequency (Hz) and flow rate (lpm)? I couldn't find it in the datasheet.

Asked by: JasonBayArea
Thank you for your inquiry about the flow meter. There is an equation that directly liniks HZ to flow rate and goes as follows: f = (Q x K)/60 where f is Hz Q is the flow rate in gallons per minute K is the K-factor which is typically in pulses per gallons or pulses per volume determine by the flow meter

Do you sell a monitor and/or cataloguer compatible with this flow meter?

Asked by: Alex2022
Thank you for your inquiry about the flow meter. The DPF75 meter will display both flow rate and total volume or the DPF78 meter will display only the flow rate.
