Supported Applications

The Omega Alta Ultrasonic Sensors are wireless, enterprise-grade IoT devices designed for distance measurement using ultrasonic waves. The series identity encompasses both commercial and industrial grade sensors intended to measure the distance between the sensor and objects in its path. Documented applications include liquid level detection, object or vehicle detection, and inventory status monitoring.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Alta-Ultra series offers distinct performance envelopes for Commercial and Industrial configurations. The Commercial version provides a measurement range of 10 centimeters to 400 centimeters with an accuracy of 5% FS, which can be calibrated via iMonnit software for enhanced accuracy. The Industrial version supports a wider range from 20 centimeters to 750 centimeters with an accuracy of +/- 1% Full Scale.

Both variants feature a sensor resolution of 1 centimeter and utilize autocalibration algorithms to adapt to environmental conditions, compensating for temperature and humidity effects. Operating ambient temperatures vary by power source: the Commercial version operates from -18°C to 55°C (0°F to 130°F) using alkaline batteries or -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F) using lithium batteries. The Industrial version maintains an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F). Wireless transmission occurs via the Monnit ALTA network with a reported non-line-of-sight range of 1,000+ ft.

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across housing materials, power options, and environmental ratings to suit specific installation needs. Key capabilities include:

• Housing Materials: Plastic for the Commercial version; Metal for the Industrial version.
• Enclosure Ratings: The Industrial sensor is NEMA 1, 2, 4, 4X, 12 and 13 rated, sealed and weather proof. It carries a UL Listing to UL508-4x specifications (File E194432).
• Power Options: Standard operation uses two 1.5 V AA batteries or lithium batteries depending on the temperature range required. Optional configurations include line power via a barrel power connector and an optional solar feature with a 5VDC/30mA solar panel and 600 mAh rechargeable battery.
• Security & Memory: Features Encrypt-RF™ (256-bit key exchange and AES-128 CTR) security and integrated memory for up to 512 sensor messages.

Certifications include FCC, CE, Industry Canada, and specific compliance testing for EN 300 220-2 V3.1.1 (2017-02) and EN 60950 on 868 and 433 MHz products.

Key Product Differences

The Alta-Ultra series distinguishes between Commercial and Industrial models based on durability, measurement range, accuracy, and environmental protection. The Commercial model measures up to 400 centimeters with a plastic housing and is not recommended for corrosive, flammable, dusty, high-pressure, wet, or vibrating environments. In contrast, the Industrial model extends the maximum measurement distance to 750 centimeters, offers +/- 1% Full Scale accuracy, utilizes a metal enclosure, and includes NEMA ratings up to 4X.

Physical dimensions also differ: the Commercial sensor measures 2.470 in (62.74 mm) x 4.375 in (111.13 mm) x 1.111 in (28.22 mm), while the Industrial version is available as a Cone Version at 2.875 in x 5.375 in x 2.25 in or a Standard Version at 2.875 in x 4.625 in x 2.25 in.
