Supported Applications

The Omega WMS-25 Modular Weather Monitoring and Data Storage Stations are meteorological systems designed for data storage and real-time monitoring of weather conditions. The series provides a user-friendly solution for recording environmental parameters without requiring a computer for setup or viewing, utilizing an LCD display with front panel buttons for configuration.

Standard sensor packages monitor six primary weather parameters: wind speed and direction, temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, and precipitation. Data is recorded directly to Secure Digital (SD) cards compatible up to 2GB capacity; at a logging interval of 1 minute, a 2GB card stores over 5 years of data with daily file creation.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 60°C (-40 to 140°F). Measurement capabilities and performance specifications are defined as follows:

• Wind Speed: Range 0 to 125 mph (0 to 57 m/s); Resolution > 0.1 mph; Accuracy ± 1 mph; Starting Threshold 0.8 mph; Time Constant 2 seconds.
• Wind Direction: Range 0 to 360°; Resolution > 1°C; Accuracy ±3°; Standard Starting Threshold 1.2 mph.
• Temperature: Range -40 to 60°C (-40 to 140°F); Resolution > 0.1°F; Accuracy ±0.5°C (±1°F) typical; Response Time 50 seconds.
• Relative Humidity: Range 3% to 100% non-condensing; Accuracy ±3% typical; Response Time 25 seconds.
• Barometric Pressure: Range 500 to 1100 mb typical (14.7 to 32.5 inHg); Resolution/Accuracy ±0.3 mb or ±0.01 inHg; User adjustable Altitude Offset for sea level correction.
• Rain Gauge: Collector diameter 8" (meets NWS specifications); Switch type Dry reed switch with < 0.1 sec closure; Resolution 0.01"/tip; Accuracy ±2% at < 2" per hour.

The system features a programmable logging interval from 10 to 60,000 seconds and includes an RS232 serial output for real-time data viewing on a PC via Hyperterminal or optional graphical software. Power requirements are 10 to 30 Vdc at 20 mA.

Configuration Options

The WMS-25 series is offered in multiple configurations tailored to indoor, outdoor, and portable deployment scenarios:

• WMS-25 (Indoor): Weather station with an indoor enclosure. Includes data logger (WMS-25-DL), wind speed/direction sensor (WMS-25-WSD), barometric pressure sensor, temperature/humidity sensor with radiation shield (WMS-25-TH), rain gauge (WMS-25-RG), and a 1.5 m (5') tripod with 1.5 m (5') mast.
• WMS-25-NEMA: Weather station housed in a NEMA-4X enclosure for outdoor protection. Includes data logger in NEMA enclosure, wind speed/direction sensor, barometric pressure sensor, temperature/humidity sensor with radiation shield, rain gauge, and 1.5 m (5') tripod/mast.
• WMS-25-P: Portable weather station configured for air temperature monitoring only. Includes data logger in a carrying case, wind speed/direction sensor, air temperature sensor (WMS-25-AT), and a 0.91 m (3') tripod with 1.8 m (6') mast.
• WMS-25-PRH: Portable weather station configured for both temperature and relative humidity monitoring. Includes data logger in carrying case, wind speed/direction sensor, temperature/humidity sensor with radiation shield, and a 0.91 m (3') tripod with 1.8 m (6') mast.

Optional accessories expand system functionality:

• Solar Power: WMS-25-SP Solar panel, 10 watt with regulator (use with WMS-25-NEMA).
• Radiation & Soil Sensors: WMS-25-SR Solar radiation sensor; WMS-25-TWS Soil/water temperature sensor.
• WMS-25-SRG Small rain gauge, 0.02" tip with 7.6 m (25') cable (use with WMS-25-P or WMS-25-PRH).
• Software & Memory: WMS-25-GS Graphical display software; WMS-25-MC Spare 512MB memory card.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between series variants lies in the enclosure type and sensor suite included. The WMS-25-NEMA model features a NEMA-4X (IP67) rated data logger enclosure, whereas standard indoor models use an indoor enclosure and portable versions utilize a carrying case.

Sensor configurations differ by application: the WMS-25-P includes only air temperature sensing via the WMS-25-AT sensor, while the WMS-25-PRH adds relative humidity capability using the WMS-25-TH sensor with radiation shield. Barometric pressure sensors (WMS-25-BP) are included in standard indoor and NEMA configurations but listed as an optional accessory for portable models.

Mounting hardware varies by form factor; desktop and NEMA stations include a 1.5 m (5') tripod with a matching mast, while portable systems utilize a shorter 0.91 m (3') tripod paired with a taller 1.8 m (6') mast to accommodate field deployment.
