Supported Applications
The Omega Miniature Thermocouple Connectors (Types SMPW and HMPW) are designed for heavy-duty construction to provide reliable electrical connections in thermocouple circuits. These connectors feature color-coding compliant with ANSI and IEC standards, facilitating identification of the specific thermocouple type being used.
Key functional features include:
- Quick Connect Contact Washers: Enable rapid connection changes without tools for certain configurations.
- Internal Wire Divider: Separates positive and negative leads to prevent shorting within the connector body.
- Combination Phillips/Slot Screws: Provide secure termination points using standard screwdrivers.
Type HMPW connectors are noted as environmentally friendly and cadmium-free. The series accepts stranded or solid wire up to Size 20 AWG.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The service temperature range depends on the specific housing material selected:
- Type SMPW (Glass-Filled Nylon): -29 to 180°C (-20 to 356°F). Note: Minor discoloration of the connector may occur between 150°C (302°F) and 180°C (356°F), though electrical properties are not affected.
- Type HMPW (Liquid Crystal Polymer): -29 to 260°C (-20 to 500°F).
These connectors support a wide range of thermocouple types, including ANSI designations J, K, T, E, R, S, and B. Type U (uncompensated) connectors are specifically used with Type B thermocouples (Pt/6%Rh-Pt/30%Rh). OMEGALLOY® is generically known as Nicrosil-Nisil.
Configuration Options
The series offers extensive configuration options across housing material, window availability, and thermocouple alloy compatibility. Model numbers follow the format: Alloy Code - Compensating Alloy Used in Connector (+ and -) - Shell Color - Glass-Filled Nylon Model Number w/Window (SMPW-*) or Liquid Crystal Polymer Model Number w/Window (HMPW-*).
Housing Materials
- Glass-Filled Nylon (Type SMPW)
- Liquid Crystal Polymer (Type HMPW)
Thermocouple Types and Shell Colors
- Type K: Yellow (CHROMEGA® / ALOMEGA®)
- Type T: Blue (Copper / Constantan)
- Type J: Black (Iron / Constantan)
- Type E: Purple (CHROMEGA / Constantan)
- Types R/S: Green (Copper / RNX/SNX)
- Type C: Red (CPX / CNX)
- Type U: White (Copper / Copper)
- Type N: Orange (OMEGA-P® / OMEGA-N®)
Ordering Options
- Specify "M" for male connector only or "F" for female connector only.
- Non-Window models are available; consult Sales for details.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction within the series is the housing material, which dictates the maximum operating temperature. Type SMPW utilizes Glass-Filled Nylon and operates up to 180°C (356°F), while Type HMPW uses Liquid Crystal Polymer for operation up to 260°C (500°F).
Connectors are available with or without a removable/reversible write-on window. The "To Order" table indicates that both SMPW and HMPW series support the same thermocouple alloy codes, but differ in their model prefixes based on material.
Available Accessories
- Silicone Wire Grommet (SR-SMP)
- Quick Connect Contact Washers: CW-SMP-20 (pkg of 20) or CW-SMP-100 (pkg of 100)
- Removable/reversible write-on window (WCP-S, pkg of 5)
- Crimp Style Brass and Stainless Steel Bushing: Available in sizes to fit 0.020 to 0.125" and 1.5 and 3.0 mm diameter probes

Well Made
Bought these to use with Omega Thermocouples. They appear to be well made and easy to connect to thermocouple wiring. Nice that they come with a "locking" wire to keep them connected to the thermocouple. Like the space for labeling the connectors.

I am evaluating SMPW-K-M-ROHS and SMPW-K-F-ROHS for one of my application. Will the TC wire TT-K-24S-SLE (Stranded) and TT-K-24-SLE(Solid) work with these connectors?
The SMPW-K-M-ROHS and SMPW-K-F-ROHS connectors will work with AWG 24 wire solid core or stranded core. That series of connector with work with wires up to AWG 20 if necessary.

Are these vacuum compatible?
The standard Thermocouple connectors are not considered Vacuum compatible. There are ceramic connectors that would be suitable for use in Vacuum environments and contact temp@dwyeromega.com to get more information.
