Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series L10 Flotect™ Mini-Size Level Switch is a float-operated reed switch designed for level detection in compatible liquids. The series provides economical, compact liquid level control solutions suitable for side wall mounting or external tee installation.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series L10 operates with a process temperature limit of 200°F (93°C). Electrical connections consist of an 18 AWG, 19" (483 mm) long lead wire with PVC jacket rated to 221°F (105°C). The switch enclosure is weatherproof and meets NEMA 4X (IP66).
Pressure ratings vary by model configuration as documented in the selection chart:
- Brass body with solid polypropylene float: Up to 1000 psig (68.9 bar) for side wall mounting; up to 250 psig (17.2 bar) for external tee.
- 303 SS body with solid polypropylene float: Up to 2000 psig (137.8 bar).
- Cylindrical stainless steel floats: Rated up to 200 psig (13.8 bar).
- Spherical/Round stainless steel floats: Rated up to 350 psig (24.1 bar) for side wall; 250 psig (17.2 bar) for external tee.
The switch type is an SPST hermetically sealed reed switch, field adjustable for normally open or normally closed operation. Electrical ratings are specified as 1.5 A @ 24 VDC res., 0.001 A @ 200 VDC res., and 0.5A @ 120 VAC.
Wetted Materials
- Float: Solid polypropylene or 304 SS
- Body: Brass or 303 SS
- Magnet: Ceramic
- External float chamber (tee): None, brass, or 304 SS
- Lever arm, pin, spring, etc.: 301 SS, 302 SS, 316 SS
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple configurations defined by body material, float type, and process connection style.
- Housing Materials: Brass or 303 Stainless Steel (change fourth character to 'S' in model number).
- Float Options: Solid polypropylene spherical; Cylindrical stainless steel; Round/Spherical stainless steel.
- Mounting Styles: Side wall mounting or external tee installation. Models with external float chambers feature 1" female NPT connections, while standard models use 1" male NPT.
- Process Connections: Standard is 1" male NPT (or BSPT). The model number digit '3' indicates 1"; change to '4' for 1-1/4", '5' for 1-1/2", or '6' for 2".
- Specific Gravity: Models support liquids with specific gravities as low as 0.5 (cylindrical float) up to 0.9 depending on the model row in the selection chart.
Options and Accessories
- BSPT Process Connection: Add "-BSPT" suffix to the model number (e.g., L10-B-3-O-BSPT).
- M25 Conduit Connection: Available as an option.
Key Product Differences
The Series L10 distinguishes variants primarily by the combination of body material and float geometry, which dictates pressure limits and minimum specific gravity requirements. Brass bodies (L10-B-...) are paired with polypropylene or stainless steel floats for pressures up to 1000 psig depending on configuration. Stainless Steel bodies (L10-S-...) offer higher pressure capabilities, reaching 2000 psig (137.8 bar) when configured with solid polypropylene floats.
External tee models differ from side wall mounting by utilizing a female NPT connection and incorporating an external float chamber. The switch enclosure is nylon for all variants. Agency approvals include CE, CSA, and UR.
