Series-6N1-ISO

Microprocessor Controlled Interface, 6 Analog / Digital Inputs to 1 Analog Output

  • The 6N1-ISO is designed to combine several device signals into a single controller-friendly analog output.
  • The module can process two to six inputs as average, highest, lowest, sum, or difference depending on DIP switch settings.
  • It accepts standard analog inputs and up to six digital inputs in binary sequence, then produces a proportional analog output.
  • Output can be configured as voltage or current, with ranges including 0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, 0-20 VDC, and 0-20 mA.
  • The analog output signal is optically isolated from the input signals, supporting cleaner interface wiring between systems.
  • Input ranges are jumper selectable, modes and outputs are DIP switch selectable, and wiring uses 90-degree pluggable screw terminal blocks.
  • Use highest or lowest signal selection to let the most demanding zone drive a reset or control signal.
  • Use high, low, or average mode where a controller needs one representative analog value from multiple sensors.
  • Use average mode for two to six similar analog inputs when one aggregated signal is more useful than individual inputs.
  • Use sum or difference mode for paired analog inputs where the controller needs a calculated relationship between two sources.
  • Use binary mode to convert up to six digital inputs into a proportional analog signal, with output percentage calculated from the binary value.
  • Use the STG variant for true staging, such as retrofitting a two- or three-stage thermostat signal to an SCR heater analog input.

Supported Applications

The ACI Series-6N1-ISO is a microprocessor-controlled interface designed to provide maximum flexibility with minimum cost by interfacing several devices to a single analog output. The series supports applications including Coldest Zone Hot Deck Reset, Signal Selector, 3 Stage SCR, and Staging. It converts multiple input signals into one proportional analog signal that is optically isolated from the inputs.

Two distinct functional variants are available within the series:

  • 6N1-ISO: Supports functions such as averaging, highest/lowest output, sum, and difference of two to six inputs. It accepts up to 6 digital inputs (binary sequence) or analog signals.
  • 6N1-ISO-STG: A true staging device designed for retrofit applications, specifically converting 24VAC staged signals from a two or three-stage thermostat to an SCR heater proportional analog output. It offers sequential input checking (Fan Mode #1) and total input counting (Fan Mode #2).

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series-6N1-ISO operates within a temperature range of 35 to 120°F (1.7 to 48.9°C) and an ambient humidity range of 10 to 90% non-condensing. Storage is supported from -20 to 150°F (-28.9 to 65.5°C). The device requires a power supply of 24 VAC (+/- 10%), 50/60 Hz, with a maximum supply current draw of 255 mA.

Performance specifications include an output signal accuracy of +/- 2% of full scale and a resolution of 64 steps for both analog and binary modes. The unit provides one isolated power output terminal selectable via jumper as either 24 VDC or 15 VDC, with a maximum supply current capability of 100 mA.

Input Specifications

The input configuration varies by model variant:

  • Analog Voltage (6N1-ISO): 0 to 5 VDC @ 1MΩ, 0 to 10 VDC @ 20,000Ω, or 0 to 20 VDC @ 10,000Ω.
  • Analog Current (6N1-ISO): 0-20 mA @ 249Ω.
  • Digital/Binary Input (Both Models): 15 VDC, 24 VDC or 24 VAC +/-10% @ 100,000Ω.

Output Specifications

The single analog signal output is selectable via DIP switches to the following ranges and impedances:

  • 0-5 VDC @ 1000Ω or 0-20 mA @ 500Ω maximum.
  • 0-10 VDC @ 1000Ω.
  • 0-20 VDC @ 1000Ω.

Configuration Options

The Series-6N1-ISO is housed in a Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) snaptrack enclosure with UL94 V-0 flammability rating. The overall product dimensions are 4.00" L x 4.60" W x 1.00" H (101.6 x 116.84 x 25.4 mm), weighing 0.60 lbs. (0.27 Kg). Electrical connections utilize 90° Pluggable Screw Terminal Blocks compatible with wire sizes from 16 AWG (1.31 mm²) to 26 AWG (0.129 mm²).

Configuration is managed through DIP switches and jumpers:

  • DIP Switch Block SW1: Selects operating mode (Average, High, Low, Difference, Binary, Sum) or Fan Mode for the STG variant. It also selects which inputs are active (e.g., 1 & 2, 1 thru 3, All).
  • DIP Switch Block SW2: Selects output type (Voltage Out vs Current Out) and output range.
  • Jumper Settings: Factory-set jumpers determine individual input signal ranges (5V, 10V, 20V, 20mA modes) or Digital/Binary mode selection. ACI recommends not adjusting these factory settings.

The series is certified to RoHS2 and WEEE standards. Accessories include a Transient Voltage Suppressor (A/D0008) and a DIN Rail Adapter Kit (A/DRC 3.88 X 4.0).

Key Product Differences

The series consists of two primary models with distinct functional envelopes:

  • 6N1-ISO: A general-purpose signal conditioner supporting analog math functions (Average, Highest, Lowest, Sum, Difference) and binary input processing. It accepts both voltage/current analog inputs and digital signals.
  • 6N1-ISO-STG: Specialized for stage control applications. Unlike the standard 6N1-ISO which performs mathematical operations on analog values, this variant is designed to convert staged thermostat outputs (24VAC) into a proportional analog signal using sequential checking or total counting logic.

Note: The 6N1-ISO-STG manual specifies that the device needs its own isolated transformer which cannot be shared with other devices. Additionally, for binary input modes on both models, inputs are not proportionally equal versus output; specific percentage outputs correspond to defined binary sequences as detailed in the product documentation.
