Supported Applications

The FMG480 Series is a spool-type electromagnetic flowmeter built for irrigation service in 3" to 12" pipe. With no moving parts, it presents an unobstructed bore and resists the wear caused by debris carried in ground or surface water. Because there are no bearings to seize or propellers to stall, maintenance demands are minimal, and the meter's modest straight-pipe requirement simplifies installation on crowded skids.

Suited to ground or surface water, the FMG480 pairs a rugged spool body with an integrated display and both pulse and 4 to 20 mA outputs, making it a practical choice for agricultural water management, well-head metering and distribution monitoring.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The meter reads reliably from a low-flow cutoff of 0.5% of maximum flow rate up to 10 m/sec. Accuracy is ±0.75% of reading plus ±0.025% of full-scale flow from the low-flow cutoff to the 10 m/sec maximum.

Process temperature is rated -12° to 60°C, with a storage range of -40° to 70°C. Line pressure is rated to 10.3 bar. The electronics housing is powder-coated diecast aluminum carrying a NEMA 6P, IP68 rating, rated for submersion to 3 m depth continuously. The meter is CE certified to EN 61326.

Electrodes are 316 stainless steel. DC-powered units accept 9-36 Vdc at 250 mA maximum (30 mA average), while AC units run on 85-264Vac, 50/60Hz at 0.12A. The current loop drives up to a 650 Ω maximum load, and the standard power/output cable is a 6 m polyurethane-jacketed lead, with lengths available on request.

Configuration Options

All 24 catalogue variants share the same measuring principle but differ by pipe size, wetted construction, power input and output configuration. The 3" body is ductile cast iron with a Noryl® liner and an EPDM O-ring, whereas the 4"-12" bodies are welded steel with an epoxy coating and a Santoprene flange/Polypropylene liner.

Size drives the physical envelope: length grows from 311 mm on the 3" meter to 500 mm on the 12", while shipping weight climbs from 17.5 kg to 77 kg across the same span. Power configurations cover AC and DC input, and every unit offers scaled pulse and 4-20mA outputs; built-in data logging is available as an option.
