Supported Applications
The Omega LD500 series consists of precision DC gaging transducers designed for automatic gaging in quality control, sorting, or go/no-go applications. These Linear Variable Displacement Transducers (LVDTs) are engineered for industrial automation environments where durability and repeatable readings are required.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LD500 series operates within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 80°C. The transducers feature a response time of 1.5 ms with a frequency response of 100 Hz for -3 dB. Linearity is specified at 0.25% across the model ranges.
Repeatability performance varies by stroke length:
- LD500-1 and LD500-2.5: <0.15 µm (6 µin)
- LD500-5: <0.10 µm (4 µin)
The series utilizes a hybrid IC module to provide a linear mV/V/mm output compatible with standard DC input meters, recorders, data interfaces, and industrial controllers.
Configuration Options
The LD500 series is available in three specific stroke configurations. Each model includes hardened steel shafts, O-ring seals, and titanium pushrods for durability. The electrical connection consists of a 2 m (6') long, PVC 5-wire shielded cable.
Model Ranges and Sensitivity
- LD500-1: ±1.0 mm (±0.04 inch) stroke; sensitivity of 78 mV/V/mm (1.98 mV/V/0.001 inch); spring rate of 13 g/mm.
- LD500-2.5: ±2.5 mm (±0.10 inch) stroke; sensitivity of 78 mV/V/mm (1.98 mV/V/0.001 inch); spring rate of 13 g/mm.
- LD500-5: ±5.0 mm (±0.20 inch) stroke; sensitivity of 56 mV/V/mm (1.98 mV/V/0.001 inch); spring rate of 10 g/mm.
Physical Dimensions and Materials
The body diameter is 19 mm (0.74 inch) for all models. Overall length varies by stroke: 86 mm (3.39 inch) for LD500-1 and LD500-2.5, and 164 mm (6.46 inch) for LD500-5. Wetted materials include a hardened steel shaft, titanium pushrod, and Nitrile or FKM gaiter.
Replacement Tips
The series supports various replacement tips to accommodate specific measurement geometries:
- LD500-A: 4.75 mm (0.185 inch) diameter, 3.175 mm (0.125 inch) length.
- LD500-B: 4.75 mm (0.185 inch) diameter, 3.56 mm (0.14 inch) length.
- LD500-C: 4.75 mm (0.185 inch) diameter, 6.35 mm (0.25 inch) length.
- LD500-D: 4.75 mm (0.185 inch) diameter, 7.925 mm (0.312 inch) length with a 90° angle.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between the LD500 models is the linear stroke range and resulting sensitivity. The shorter stroke models, LD500-1 and LD500-2.5, share identical dimensions for overall length (86 mm) and stem length (34 mm), as well as a higher sensitivity of 78 mV/V/mm. The longer stroke model, LD500-5, features an extended body with an overall length of 164 mm and a stem length of 116 mm to accommodate the ±5.0 mm range; this configuration provides improved repeatability (<0.10 µm) but lower sensitivity (56 mV/V/mm). All models operate on a power supply of 10 to 24 Vdc and include CE certification with a 1 YEAR WARRANTY.

LD500, Can you read the output single ended referenced?
The LD500 is a 4-wire differential output device. Sensitivity will depend on range you have/choose. All of this information is found on the data sheet including the wiring data. How do you convert the output voltage into displacement
The output signal is linear across the -1 mm to +1 mm measurement range of the sensor. If you power the sensor with 10 VDC your output signal will swing from -0.780V at - 1mm to +0.780 V at + 1mm .

What is reading resolution of LD-500-2.5? I want to use them for sorting of precision steel ball with 0.1 um dimensional accuracy
According to the datasheet the specs for LD500-2.5. Repeatability <0.15 mm. Lin: 0.25%. In theory, an LVDT has infinite resolution, but in practice, the resolution is limited by the signal-to-noise ratio of the system and the external output electronics.
