Supported Applications
The Omega PR-14 series consists of Industrial RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) probes featuring a miniature aluminum protection head. These sensors are designed for direct insertion into thermowells and are intended for temperature measurements in vessels, tanks, and similar structures.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PR-14 series offers three distinct performance envelopes based on the model family: Low (PR-14L), High (PR-14H), and Extreme (PR-14E). Process temperature ranges span from -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F) for PR-14L, up to -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F) for PR-14H, and extending to -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F) for the PR-14E model.
Accuracy specifications vary by range. The PR-14L provides Class A accuracy across its full operating span. For the PR-14H, performance is rated as Class A from -50 to 300°C (-58 to 572°F), or else Class B outside this interval. The PR-14E model delivers Class A accuracy from -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F), with Class B performance elsewhere.
Response time (T90) is dependent on both the probe diameter and the temperature range family:
- PR-14L (Low): 1/8" at 2.4 sec, 3/16" at 2.8 sec, and 1/4" at 3.25 sec.
- PR-14H (High): 1/8" at 2.8 sec, 3/16" at 4.11 sec, and 1/4" at 5.41 sec.
- PR-14E (Extreme): 1/8" at 9 sec, 3/16" at 9.8 sec, and 1/4" at 10.6 sec.
The series meets an ingress protection rating of IP67. Mechanical robustness is defined by IEC 60068-2-6 for vibration (5 to 2000 Hz sweep rate, one active per minute; number of sweep cycles 10 and acceleration 5g) and IEC 60068-2-27 for shock (50g/11ms), with test durations specified as 1 day.
Configuration Options
The PR-14 series is configurable across several dimensions to accommodate specific installation requirements:
- Sensor Elements: Includes PT100 Ω or PT1000 Ω platinum RTD elements with a standard TCR of 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C.
- Diameters: Available in 1/8 inch, 3/16 inch, and 1/4 inch stem sizes.
- Lengths: Standard probe lengths include 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 inches. Other lengths may be built using the manufacturer's configurator.
- Housing & Materials: Features a miniature aluminum protection head with cap and a 316 stainless steel sheath for wetted parts.
- Connections: Equipped with 1/2" NPT process connection threads. Electrical termination is provided via a screw terminal block designed for insulated copper extension wire.
Additional options include replacement probes (without head assembly) and a spring-loaded option intended to provide quicker and more accurate response times.
Key Product Differences
The series is differentiated by three primary model families, each corresponding to specific temperature ranges and performance characteristics:
- PR-14L (Low): Covers -50 to 250°C (-58 to 482°F) with Class A accuracy throughout the range.
- PR-14H (High): Covers -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F), offering Class A performance from -50 to 300°C (-58 to 572°F).
- PR-14E (Extreme): Covers -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F), offering Class A performance from -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F).
All models share the same nominal resistance standards (100 Ω and 1000 Ω at 0°C) and physical construction materials, differing primarily in their thermal limits and response time profiles.

Good little RTD
RTD's are great except for the fact that we have vibration in our equipment and the wires are so small they rub through or break.

Will only purchase temperature devices from Omega!
Omega has some of the best customer service in the industry. The products they offer have never failed. I don't know why anyone would even think of buying from another supplier.
