Supported Applications

The Omega HHM-EX500 Series comprises heavy-duty industrial multimeters designed for rugged environments. These True RMS instruments measure DC/AC voltage, DC/AC current, resistance, capacitance, frequency (electrical and electronic), duty cycle, diode test, continuity, and thermocouple temperature. The series is rated CAT IV-600V Safety Rating for Industrial Applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The HHM-EX500 Series features an IP67 enclosure rating and a drop-proof design to 2.9 m (6'). All models provide 1000 V Input Protection on All Functions, with surge protection rated at 8kV peak per IEC 61010. The series operates on a 9V battery (included) and includes an auto power off feature with disable capability.

Performance specifications vary by model:

  • HHM-EX505: Basic accuracy of 0.5% with a 4000 count display.
  • HHM-EX520: Basic accuracy of 0.09% with a 6000 count display.
  • HHM-EX530: Basic accuracy of 0.06% with a 40,000 count display.

All models feature a large backlit LCD and True RMS averaging capabilities.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable measurement ranges across three primary model families. The HHM-EX530 provides the highest resolution for voltage (down to 0.01 mV) and current (down to 0.01 µA), while the HHM-EX520 supports DC/AC Current up to 20A, compared to 10A on the HHM-EX505.

Key configurable capabilities include:

  • Voltage Ranges: DC/AC Voltage from 0.1 mV or 0.01 mV up to 1000 Vdc/Vac depending on the model.
  • Current Ranges: DC/AC Current from 0.1 µA or 0.01 µA up to 20A (HHM-EX520, HHM-EX530) or 10A (HHM-EX505).
  • Resistance: Ranges from 0.1Ω or 0.01Ω up to 60M Ω.
  • Capacitance: Ranges from 0.001 nF to 40 mF (HHM-EX530).
  • Frequency: Electrical frequency ranges include 5 Hz to 1 kHz, while electronic frequency extends up to 100 MHz on the HHM-EX530.
  • Temperature: Measurement range of -20 to 750°C (-4 to 1382°F) for HHM-EX505; -45 to 750°C (-50 to 1382°F) for HHM-EX520 and HHM-EX530.

Standard accessories include a free Type K insulated beaded wire thermocouple (Model No. SC-GG-K-30-36), double molded test leads, magnetic hanging strap, carrying case, 9V battery, and operator's manual. Optional NIST-traceable calibration is available.

The series consists of three distinct models differentiated by display resolution, accuracy class, and specific measurement range limits:

  • HHM-EX505: A 4000 count True RMS industrial multimeter with 0.5% basic accuracy.
  • HHM-EX520: A 6000 count True RMS industrial multimeter with 0.09% basic accuracy and extended current range to 20A.
  • HHM-EX530: A 40,000 count True RMS industrial multimeter offering the highest resolution (0.06% basic accuracy) and expanded frequency/capacitance ranges.

All models share identical physical dimensions of 184 x 83 x 57 mm (7.25 x 3.25 x 2.25") and a weight of 349 g (12.3 oz). The series holds CE, UL LISTED, RoHS certifications.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective EXTECH EX530 purchased a multimeter recently (order HQ02088673). I received the multimeter but it is defective out of the box. The voltmeter mV AC mode fluctuates up to 4 mv and never gives the same reading when I short the probes together. It never goes to (or near) zero. The best stable reading I got was 0.08 mV AC. It started to fluctuate again when I released and re-shorted the probes again. I bought the EXTECH EX530 for that specific mode. (resolution of 0.01 mV in AC). I don't mind a stable zero offset. But a drift of over 400 graduations is unacceptable. There is also a problem with the ohm meter. It fluctuates and I can not trust the continuity function (beeb) as it comes on and off whit the probes on a short peaces of steel. Even with pressure applied. I tried a different set of probes and it does the same thing. In the RMA process for repair

Does a new purchase of one of these units come NIST-traceable calibrated and with a certificate of calibration?
