Supported Applications

The NS and NSL Series are seamless Incoloy® sheath strip heaters: rugged, high-temperature, premium-quality elements 1.9 cm (¾") wide. Each heater encloses nickel-chromium resistance wire in a densely compacted refractory material that provides dielectric insulation and efficient heat conduction, with two terminals at one end and fully seamless construction.

They are designed for clamp-on, convection and air-heating service, making them a flexible choice for heating tanks, platens, dies, ovens and process surfaces. The seamless Incoloy sheath resists oxidation and corrosion at elevated temperature, and an optional terminal end bend of 15° helps clear a terminal block when the heater is mounted on a flat surface.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The heaters cover a power range of 500 to 3000 Watt and operate on 120, 240 or 480 Vac. The Incoloy sheath is rated to a maximum sheath temperature of 399°C.

Because sheath life depends on how heat is drawn away, the maximum allowable work temperature falls as watt density rises. In clamp-on service the sheath reaches up to 300°F at 30 W/in², 750°F at 20 W/in² and 950°F at 10 W/in². In convection and air-heating service the sheath reaches up to 950°F at 30 W/in², 1200°F at 20 W/in² and 1350°F at 10 W/in².

The minimum inside bend radius is 76 mm, and the heaters are CSA approved. To determine the maximum allowable watt density for a given application, the source data sheet refers to Figures C-8 to C-10.

Configuration Options

The line divides into two families that differ chiefly by their electrical termination:

  • NS Series — seamless Incoloy sheath with two terminals at one end.
  • NSL Series — the same seamless Incoloy element supplied with 10" wire-type leads for connection where a terminal block is impractical.

Within each family, individual models differ by heated length, wattage and operating voltage, and the watt density is set by the combination of length and power. Each model is ordered with a voltage suffix — for example NS-2601/240 or NSL-1205/120 — where 120, 240 or 480 is inserted for the voltage required. Optional features include seal welding of the end opposite the terminals and the -TERMINAL BEND suffix for a 15° terminal end bend.

Key Product Differences

The lineup spans a graduated series of lengths and wattages in both the terminal (NS) and wire-lead (NSL) styles, including:

  • NS-1205 / NSL-1205, NS-1405 / NSL-1405 and NS-1505 / NSL-1505 — the shorter 500 Watt elements.
  • NS-1807, NS-1801, NS-1901 and NS-2001 — mid-length 750 to 1100 Watt elements.
  • NS-2401, NS-2501, NS-2601, NS-3015, NS-3301 and NS-3601 — the longer 1200 to 1850 Watt elements.

Each base model is offered in NS and NSL styles and in 120, 240 or 480 Vac versions, giving a broad matrix of catalog part numbers such as NS-2601/240V and NSL-1205/120V to match the length, power and supply voltage a heating application requires.
