Supported Applications

The Omega HYP Hypodermic Needle Temperature Probes are designed for industrial, laboratory, manufacturing, and chemical research applications. These probes measure temperature in plants, semi-solids, and liquids using a hypodermic needle process connection.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports measurement ranges from cryogenic to 200°C (400°F), with specific models rated up to 160°C (325°F) or up to 200°C (400°F). Accuracy meets or exceeds Special Limit of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. The HYP0 model provides the fastest response among the hypodermic probes.

Probe Dimensions

  • Diameters range from 0.2 mm (0.008") to 1.65 mm (0.065").
  • Insertion lengths include 25 mm (1") and 38 mm (1.5").
  • Overall length is listed as 38 mm (1.5").
  • Stem lengths are available in 18.25 mm (0.72") and 31.8 mm (1.25").

Configuration Options

The series offers five probe types with configurable sensor elements, calibrations, connectors, and options.

Sensor Elements & Calibrations

  • HYP0, HYP1, and HYP2: Type T (Copper-Constantan) thermocouple elements.
  • HYP3: Available in J, K, T, or E calibration.
  • HYP4: 100 Ω Platinum RTD (α = 0.00385).

Connectors & Options

  • SMP-type miniature connector.
  • SMPW male connector (add '-SMPW-M').
  • MTP-U male connector (add '-MTP-M').
  • M8/M12 connectors (add 'M8-S-M', 'M12-S-M', 'M8-R-M', 'M12-R-M').
  • Easy grip handle option (add 'EGH' suffix).

Materials & Construction

Housing and sheath materials are stainless steel. Wetted materials include Stainless steel, Copper-Constantan, CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®, Iron-Constantan, and Platinum RTD.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes models by probe type (HYP0 through HYP5), gauge size, insertion length, calibration code, connector style, and optional features. Model numbers follow the format: HYP<model>-<gauge>-<length>-<calibration>-<connector>-<options>. All probes are designed for industrial, laboratory, manufacturing, and chemical research only; they are not intended for medicinal use or on humans.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Arrived with broken wire lead This item arrived with one of the wires leading into the plug broken. I called Technical Support, and they advised me to try to fix it. I was able to do so after about an hour (the leads are incredibly thin with thin insulation). Seems to work now, but disappointing because this should not have been my problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Probes were unstable I bought 7 of the HYPO hypodermic needles. All were unstable. It totally defeats the purpose of having a thermocouple to monitor a temperature. It is supposedly used as the indicator of a process. I would like to return these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised We use these in the field to measure insect body temperatures. They are performing as expected and equilibrate quickly.

In the past we have ordered mini type K probes - TJ-36-CASS-14G-9-SB-SMPW-M. We need to purchase additional quantity but that number is not coming up on your website. Can you advise if the number has changed or has it been discontinued. Thank you

Asked by: DeeB
The HYP0 probes are a unique family of probes which do not include the TJ36 style series. When looking to find the TJ36 probes use it as the prefix for your search and it will lead you to the series page and allow you to select or customize a wide range of options.

What is the chemical resistance of the HYP0 probe? Can it withstand alkaline solutions?

Asked by: Maps
Thank you for the inquiry. The sheath material of the needle is 304SS. Recommend to verify your chemical mixture against 304SS using chemical compatibility tables. Best regards OMEGA
