Supported Applications
The HHF-SD1 is a combination hot-wire and thermistor anemometer with a built-in real-time SD card data logger, measuring air velocity and air temperature simultaneously from a single telescoping probe. A hot wire senses air speed while a glass-bead thermistor reads air temperature, and an input socket accepts a Type K or J thermocouple for surface or immersion temperature measurement.
Because it logs directly to an SD memory card and produces Excel-compatible (.xls) files, the HHF-SD1 is well suited to environmental testing, balancing fans and motors, HVAC and duct airflow surveys, and clean-room or laboratory air-movement studies. A backlit LCD, automatic temperature compensation, and selectable velocity units make it easy to read in the field, and an optional RS232/USB interface with software allows data to be pulled onto a PC.
The meter comes complete with a hard carrying case, a Type K thermocouple, the telescoping probe, an SD card, and an operator's manual. It is not designed for and should not be used in human applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Air velocity is measured over dual sub-ranges of 0.2 to 5 m/s and 5.1 to 20 m/s (equivalent to 40 to 3940 ft/min), with velocity accuracy of ±(5% + a) reading or ±(1% + a) full scale, whichever is greater. Air temperature is measured from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at 0.1°C (0.1°F) resolution. The telescoping probe is 12 mm (0.47") in diameter and extends from 280 to 940 mm (11 to 37").
Data-logging and interface behavior includes:
- Sampling time (Auto): 1 to 3600 seconds, with the display updating at 1 second
- Memory: SD memory card, storing Excel-compatible logs
- Interface: RS232/USB (with optional cable and software)
- Display: 52 x 38 mm (2.05 x 1.5") LCD with switchable green backlight
The unit runs on 6 'AAA' alkaline or heavy-duty batteries (included) or an optional 9V power adaptor, drawing 15 mA DC without the SD card or backlight and 36 mA with all functions active. It operates from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at less than 85% RH, weighs 515 g (1.13 lb), and measures 203 L x 76 W x 38 mm D (8 x 3 x 1.50"). The instrument is manufactured to ISO 9001 quality standards.
Configuration Options
Offered as a single model, the HHF-SD1's flexibility comes from its selectable measurement scales and its thermocouple input. Velocity can be displayed in m/s, km/h, ft/min, knots, or mile/hr, and each scale uses a fine/coarse dual-range resolution — for example 0.01 m/s at low speed and 0.1 m/s at higher speed. Temperature reads in °C or °F with automatic temperature compensation.
When a thermocouple is fitted (sold separately), the measuring capability depends on the sensor type. A Type K sensor covers -50 to 1300°C (-58 to 2372°F), while a Type J sensor covers -50 to 1200°C (-58 to 2192°F); both deliver 0.1°C resolution and ±(0.4% + 0.5°C) accuracy over their primary spans, easing to ±(0.4% + 1°C) at the coldest sub-range.

Has worked as advertised for us. Anything that outputs a .csv rather than some proprietary filetype is worth it as far as I am concerned.

Can I know its frequency response range?
Thank you for your inquiry about the anemometer. The response time is instantaneous when measuring air flow and to data log, it is user define to record in various times:
0, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 60, 120, 300, 600, 1800 or 3600 seconds (0
seconds to 1 hour)

Hi, ihave 2questions:1)when i put aKthermocouple tomeasure velocity and low temperature does itaffect the measurement of velocity because the device normally works from 0 to 50°C,2)would it also give a temp/veloc vs time plot when i put this thermocouple.
Thank you for your inquiry. If you plan to measure below or at lower temperatures, it will not measure accurately and it will not provide a velocity plot.

How many hours of continuous measurement can Hot Wire Anemometer with Real Time Data Logger (Item# HHF-SD1) do while logging. Can it be set to take measurements only at certain intervals e.g. every 10 seconds?
Thanks for your question. This model can be set for one of the following sampling times: 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 60, 120, 300, 600, 1800 or 3600 seconds. The length of time this unit is able to record depends upon the sampling time selected and the size of the SD card being used. Also, depending on the sampling time and how long you intend to record for, you may want to get a 9-VDC adapter to power the unit PART # ADAPTER-SD.

Hi, May i know is this a Constant Temperature Anemometer (CTA)? Could this be able to measure air velocity (or possibly other turbulent properties) in a high turbulence condition (Turbulence intensity 5%)?
Thank you for your inquiry. This anemometer is not CTA, as it can do temperature compensation. Also, this meter is meant for turbulent applications.

Does this product come with a certificate of calibration?
Yes, there is an option to include a NIST Certificate and that part number is HHF-SD1-CAL-3.

Can we write our own software to automatically read data from the instrument? Where can we find the commands?
Thank you for inquiry about the hot wire anemometer and would advise if you can compose an email and send it to flow@omega.com and can provide the information.

When taking velocity measurements, the meter will show increasing velocity until about 3100 ft/ min. As air speed increases beyond this, the measurement will decrease and a '-' sign appears at the far left. What does this mean and how to fix?
Measurements are coming close to the upper measurement limit for this device (3940ft/min). But for why the measurements would start decreasing and '-' code, I don’t have an answer. The unit will need to come back for evaluation.

What frequency range is this able to measure? What is the format of the output, a time series or does it provide any FFT outputs?
Thanks for your question. The HHF-SD1 does not measure frequency; it measures velocity and temperature and it only has a serial communication output RS232.
