Supported Applications

The Omega XCIB Series is a family of high-temperature thermocouples with abrasion-resistant Inconel® overbraid over high-temperature ceramic-fiber insulation, giving double protection for demanding thermal environments. They are designed for oven and furnace profiling and other high-temperature measurement applications, and are available in five convenient probe styles (1–5) for easy application.

Each assembly is built on 20-gauge solid thermocouple conductors insulated with braided ceramic fiber and protected by a rugged Inconel 600® overbraid — a tough, high-nickel-content alloy. Assemblies are compatible with J, K, E, or N calibrations.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The thermocouples withstand high process temperatures:

 • Continuous: up to 980°C (1800°F).
 • Short-term: up to 1038°C.

Construction uses an Inconel 600® sheath and Inconel® overbraid, with a probe diameter of 4.8 mm (3/16"). Termination options include ceramic-beaded leads with compensated spade lugs, an Omega® OSTW 220°C (425°F) standard male connector, or an Omega® NHXH high-temperature 650°C (1200°F) ceramic male connector. The thermocouples are made in the USA.

Configuration Options

Model numbers follow the pattern XCIB-<thermocouple type>-<probe style>-<termination type>-<length> (for example, XCIB-K-1-3-10 is a Type K probe, style 1, with a termination type and a 10' length). Configurations vary along these axes:

 • Thermocouple type: J (Iron-Constantan), K (CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®), E (CHROMEGA®-Constantan), or N (OMEGALLOY® NICROSIL-NISIL).
 • Probe style: five styles (1–5) for different high-temperature applications.
 • Termination: spade lugs, OSTW or NHXH connectors, Nextel®-insulated leads, stripped leads, SMPW mini-male, or SHX mini-male ceramic connectors.

Custom lengths and sizes are available, and the "CAL-" prefix specifies assemblies supplied with calibration data at specified temperatures.

Key Product Differences

The series spans J, K, E, and N calibrations across the five probe styles and the available termination types, in standard 3' and 10' lengths (additional length available per foot). Representative catalog numbers include:

 • XCIB-K-1-3-10 — Type K, probe style 1, 10' length.
 • XCIB-J-1-2-3 — Type J, probe style 1, 3' length.
 • XCIB-E-2-3-10 and XCIB-N variants across the same style/termination matrix.

Specify thermocouple type, probe style (1–5), termination type, and length to define a complete part number.

Exactly what is meant by "short-term service" in the Process Temperature Note? Is this minutes, hours, days?

Asked by: LOLcaro
Thank you for the inquiry. Short term service indicates hours or days of service. Best regards OMEGA

Can these J Type thermocouples really operate up to 980C? And are they resistant to oxidation?

Asked by: laurenEV
Hi laurenEV Thank you for the inquiry. You are correct in that type J would not be rated to 980 C. Type J 20 awg bare wire has continuous service rating of 480 C in air environment. For high temperatures we recommend K type. J type will oxidize. Best regards OMEGA

What is the safe operating temperature that the Nextel with Inconel Braiding cable can width stand? How long can it width stand prolonged heat exposure?

Asked by: EngGradSM24
Thank you for your inquiry. 980°C is the maximum operating temperature. No data for length of exposure time.

Is there a mounting tube or sleeve available for the XCIB-K-1-10? or are they intended to be directly in contact with the heat/flame?

Asked by: Deputy Chief 102
Thank you for your inquiry. We do not have any protection tubes designated for the XCIB series. They are suitable for direct flame contact.

Can these be submerged in water? I want to test it with boiling water. I have model XCIB-K-1-5-3.

Asked by: sam23
These probes cannot be submerged in liquid as the insulation is porous. If you put the sensing end in a sealed metal tube then submerge that would be OK.
