Supported Applications

The STAC6 Series are high-performance stepper drives with an integrated AC power supply, designed for demanding motion-control applications. A MOSFET, dual H-bridge, 4 quadrant amplifier drives the motor, while configurable idle current reduction and multiple control modes make the drive flexible across machine-automation tasks.

 • Pulse and Direction control from an external indexer or controller
 • Analog Command Signal control
 • Host Command via RS232/485 for networked and PC-driven systems

The drives are MADE IN USA and CE marked. They are recommended for use with NEMA 23 and NEMA 34 stepper motors such as the OMHT23-550 (255 oz-in holding torque), OMHT34-488 (650 oz-in) and OMHT34-490 (1845 oz-in).

Operating Conditions & Performance

The STAC6 runs from a 90 to 135 Vac input (nominal 120 Vac, 50/60 Hz), with STAC6-S-220V and STAC6-Si-220V models available with a 220 Vac power supply, producing a nominal 165 Vdc DC bus. Current control is 4 state PWM at 20 KHz with an output current of 0.5 to 6.0 A in 0.01 A increments, and a built-in regeneration circuit rated 25 W max.

 • Resolution: software selectable from 200 to 51,200 steps/rev in increments of 1 step/rev.
 • Step and Direction inputs: optically isolated 5 to 12V, minimum pulse width 200 ns, maximum pulse frequency 2 MHz.
 • Speed range: up to 133 rps depending on selected resolution.
 • Encoder option: differential line receivers suitable for 200 KHz or greater.
 • Ambient temperature: 0 to 55°C, humidity 90% non-condensing.

Protection covers over/under-voltage, over-temperature, external output shorts (phase-to-phase, phase-to-ground) and internal amplifier shorts. The drive measures 252 mm x 60 mm x 187 mm and connects through a DB-25 I/O connector, with the optional MMI-01 operator interface carrying a NEMA 4/12 (IP56/52) rating.

Configuration Options

The two base models differ by on-board intelligence and I/O capacity, and each is offered in a standard 120 Vac or a 220 Vac power version.

 • STAC6-S is a pulse-and-direction / analog drive with 7 Digital Inputs (two 5V, five 12 to 24V), 3 Digital Outputs at 30V and 2 Analog Inputs at ±10V.
 • STAC6-Si adds the Si Programmer for stand-alone stored programs and expands I/O to 15 Digital Inputs (two 5V, thirteen 12 to 24V) and 7 Digital Outputs at 30V.
 • The 220 Vac versions replace the standard supply for higher line-voltage installations.

For I/O wiring, the OMBOB-1 breakout box is compatible with all STAC6 models while the OMBOB-2 is compatible with the STAC6-Si. The HUB 444 SiNet Hub connects up to 4 drives for multi-axis systems.

Key Product Differences

The model number follows STAC6 - <model variant> - <power supply voltage>. The four catalog configurations are:

 • STAC6-S — High performance stepper drive complete with AC power supply.
 • STAC6-Si — High performance stepper drive with Si Programmer.
 • STAC6-S-220V — Stepper drive complete with 220 Vac power supply.
 • STAC6-Si-220V — Stepper drive with 220 Vac power supply and Si Programmer.

Accessories include the MMI-01 operator interface, the HUB 444 SiNet Hub, the OMBOB-1 and OMBOB-2 breakout boxes, and configuration software with programming cables.

Regarding the STAC6S, what is your part number for the "communication cable" that connects a PC serial port to the PC/MMI jack on the STAC6S. This is the cable that is shipped with the STAC6S.

Asked by: DonBock
Refer to STAC6 Hardware Manual 920-0026 Rev. A6 (7/20/09). The “Connecting to the PC using RS-232” section on page 12 says: “Your drive was shipped with a communication cable. Plug the large end into the serial port of your PC and the small end into the PC/MMI jack on your drive. Secure the cable to the PC with the screws on the sides.” We are using this provided communication cable in our test bench assembly. Do you have an external-facing part number for this cable that I can use in my drawings as well as for ordering replacement cables?
