Supported Applications

The Omega Model TX31 is an analog, isolated 2-wire head-mounted temperature transmitter designed for process control, automation systems, and energy source management. It converts thermocouple inputs into a proportional 4 to 20 mA output current suitable for industrial signal conditioning.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TX31 operates within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 70°C and supports humidity levels from 5 to 85 %, non-condensing. The unit provides galvanic isolation with a response time of 200 ms (0 to 90%). Accuracy is specified as ±0.1% of voltage input span for linearity error, with a temperature coefficient of ±0.02%/°C at Tamb = 5 to 50°C and repeatability of ±0.01% of voltage input span.

Measurement ranges vary by thermocouple type as documented in the series specifications:

  • Type J: 0 to 600°C
  • Type E: 0 to 600°C
  • Type K: 0 to 1000°C
  • Type T: 0 to 400°C
  • Types R, S, and B: 0 to 1600°C

The transmitter accepts a power supply of 12 to 32 Vdc with reverse polarity protection. The maximum load resistance is specified as 50 x (loop power - 12) ohms or up to 250 Ω depending on configuration.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple thermocouple types via a configurable model number guide: TX31-(*) where (*) is the inserted type J, E, K, T, R, S, or B. The unit features multi-range selectability through a 3 DIP-switch array and fine-tuning using ZERO and SPAN potentiometers.

  • Housing: Cast aluminum with epoxy coating and polycarbonate top cover (UL94-V0 grade), designed to fit DIN B connection heads for RFI immunity.

  • Fault Indication: Output signals upscale to < 26 mA or downscale to < 3.8 mA when a thermocouple wire is broken.

Available accessories include regulated power supplies (PSR-24S with screw terminal, PSR-24L with stripped leads) and an unregulated supply (PSU-93).
