Product Overview
Supported Applications
The FPD4000 Series is a positive displacement flow meter designed for the measurement of oil, grease, fuel, solvents, polyurethanes, brake fluid, Skydrol, and other nonabrasive lubricating fluids. The series maintains consistent accuracy despite changing viscosity conditions and offers good resolution at low flow rates without requiring straight run piping upstream or downstream.
Flow may be bi-directional for applications such as cylinder position measurements without damage to internal parts. An optional DPF75 pulse input 6-digit panel meter is available for rate or total measurement.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series delivers an accuracy of ±0.5% over a 10:1 turndown with 30cP fluid and repeatability of ±0.1%. Measurement ranges span from 0.01 to 3 LPM (0.003 to 0.8 GPM) up to 1.9 to 227 LPM (0.5 to 60 GPM), depending on the model size.
Maximum pressure is rated at 413 bar (6000 psi). Process temperature limits vary by body material: Aluminum Body meters are rated for a maximum fluid temperature of 85°C (185°F), while Stainless Steel Body meters support up to 204°C (400°F). Standard electronics operate in ambient temperatures from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F); the High Temperature option extends this range for stainless steel models.
Response time is defined by an update time of 1/F + 25 msec. The square wave output supports frequencies up to 2000 Hz with a minimum signal of 0.5 Hz and a duty cycle of 50% ±15%. Analog output (-A Models) provide linearity of ±0.01% rdg.
Wetted Materials
- Body: FPD4000 Series (Aluminum), FPD4010 Series (303 SS), FPD4020 Series (316 SS)
- Gear and Bearings: Stainless steel
- O-Ring: PTFE, with optional FKM
Configuration Options
The series is configurable across three primary body material families: Aluminum (FPD400X), 303 Stainless Steel (FPD401X), and 316 Stainless Steel (FPD402X). Process connections are available in NPT sizes of ¼, ½, ¾, and 1¼. Output options include a basic Square Wave pulse or an analog 4 to 20 mA signal on models designated with the "-A" suffix.
Power Requirements
- Square Wave: +10 to 28 Vdc (Supply current: 8 mA @ 12 Vdc, 12 mA @ 24 Vdc)
- Analog Output (-A Models): 10 to 30 Vdc
Filtration Requirements by Model Size
- FPD40X1, FPD40X2, FPD40X3: 30 microns
- FPD40X4: 30 microns
- FPD40X5: 200 microns
Key Product Differences
The FPD4000 Series distinguishes models by body material and output type. The base series (e.g., FPD4001) features an aluminum gear meter with pulse output, while the "-A" variants (e.g., FPD4001-A) provide a 4 to 20 mA analog output.
Stainless steel options are divided into two series: the FPD401X family utilizes 303 SS bodies, and the FPD402X family uses 316 SS bodies. Both stainless families offer pulse or analog (-A) configurations across various NPT sizes.
For high-temperature service on stainless steel models, a "-HT" suffix is added to the model number for an additional cost, extending electronics temperature range up to 149°C (300°F). Dimensions vary by size; body diameter ranges from 7.6 cm (3 inch) to 21.3 cm (8.4 inch), and height varies accordingly. On analog output models (-A), add 12 cm (4.8") to the standard body height for overall dimensions.
