Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series 16L is a microprocessor-based limit control designed for temperature and process monitoring. The primary application documented for this series is gas fired heater limit control. It functions as a universal input controller capable of accepting thermocouple, RTD, DC voltage, or DC current signals.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series 16L operates within an ambient temperature range of 14 to 131°F (-10 to 55°C). Accuracy is specified as ±0.25% of span, ±1 least significant digit. The unit features a dual display with two 4-digit, 7-segment LEDs that are 0.3" (7.62 mm) high. Power requirements support 100-240 VAC nominal (+10 -15%, 50 to 400 Hz single phase) or 132-240 VDC nominal (+10 -20%), with a maximum power consumption of 5 VA.

The front panel carries an NEMA 4X (IP66) rating. The device includes nonvolatile memory requiring no batteries for backup and features open sensor protection along with peak and valley temperature indication capabilities.

Configuration Options

The Series 16L offers configurable output and communication options to suit specific control needs. The controller supports selectable inputs for 10 thermocouple types, 4 RTD types, DC voltage, or DC current.

Note that only Option 9502 may be combined with another option. The unit is designed for panel mounting with a cutout dimension of 1.77" + 0.02" [45 mm + 0.6 mm] square.

Key Product Differences

The series includes specific model configurations such as the 16L2030, which provides a N.O. relay output with no second output, and the 16L2034, configured with both a N.O. relay and a N.C. relay. Other configurations are available via the manufacturer's website.

Installation notes specify that thermocouple or Class 2 wiring must not be run in the same conduit as power leads. For thermocouple inputs, extension leads of the matching type designated for the specific thermocouple must always be used. The unit includes a remote or integral reset button option depending on configuration.
