Supported Applications

The Omega EchoPulse® LR30 is a general-purpose, two-wire pulse radar level transmitter designed for continuous liquid level measurement in open channels and non-contact sensing scenarios. The series targets industrial wastewater applications, municipal storm/sewer lift stations, reservoirs, rivers, canals, and sump process conditions.

The sensor operates effectively under challenging environmental factors including light surface foam, agitation, small trash, wind, condensation, or vapor. It is configured for bracket mount installation suspended above the liquid level in both below-grade and above-grade facilities.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LR30 series utilizes 26 GHz pulse radar technology to measure levels from a minimum of 12" (30cm) up to a maximum range of 98.4' (30m). The measurement accuracy is specified as ± 3mm with a beam angle of 12°. A factory-set dead band of 12" (30cm) prevents false readings near the antenna, though this can be lowered to 2" from the bottom of the antenna.

Process temperature limits are F: -40° to 212°, C: -40° to 100°. The sensor is rated for atmospheric pressure conditions. Storage temperatures range from F: -40° to 176°, C: -40° to 80°. Power consumption is a maximum of 22.5 mA, supplied by 16-26 VDC.

Signal Output and Configuration

  • Output Signal: 4-20 mA two-wire; invertible to 4-20 mA or 20-4 mA.
  • Fail-Safe Settings: Configurable at 3.9 mA, 20.5 mA, or 22 mA upon signal loss.
  • Configuration Interface: Remote push-button display module with an LCD dot matrix screen showing feet and meters, percent of span bar graph, and echo signal curve.

Environmental Ratings

  • Sensor Enclosure Rating: IP68 (Nylon housing).
  • Display Module Enclosure Rating: IP67 (Polycarbonate housing, wall mount type).
  • Cable Entry: Sensor includes a 32.8' (10m) shielded cable with PVC jacket; display module features two ½" NPT conduit entrances.

Configuration Options

The LR30 series is offered as an integrated solution including the sensor, mounting bracket, cable, and remote display. The primary configuration supports non-contact measurement via a PA66 (Nylon) antenna housing with Polycarbonate window protection.

Mounting Options

The transmitter accommodates two installation methods:

  • Bracket Mount: Includes a 304 SS bracket for suspension above the liquid level.
  • NPT Conduit Mount: Compatible with 1" NPT conduit connections.

Key Product Differences

The LR30 is distinct within the EchoPulse family as a dedicated open-channel and wastewater solution. Unlike other series members (LR10, LR15, LR20, LR25) which utilize 316L SS or PFA antennas for pressurized tanks with ranges up to 114.83' (35m), the LR30 is specifically engineered for atmospheric pressure applications in open environments.

The series features a unique remote display architecture, separating the sensing element from the configuration interface via a shielded cable connection. This contrasts with other family members that may integrate electronics differently or lack the specific IP68 sensor/IP67 display split designed for harsh wastewater conditions.

IS there a manufacturer's drawing for a FM Div 1 Class 1 installation of a Radar level transmitter in a sewage environment?
