Supported Applications
The Omega TL-WELD Series is a thermocouple and fine wire welder designed for sensor manufacturers producing commercial-grade thermocouple junctions. It serves users in test and development laboratories requiring large numbers of exposed junction thermocouples. The instrument enables the production of quality beaded thermocouples with minimal practice.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The TL-WELD supports welding wires up to 1.1 mm (0.043") in diameter and delivers an energy output range of 0 to 60 joules. The device operates on a standard power supply of 110 to 120/220 to 250 Vac selectable, 50 to 60 Hz, with maximum power consumption rated at 170 VA dropping to 20 VA during charging. A duty cycle of minimum 5 to 10 welds per minute is supported.
The unit includes an argon gas shield facility for improved weld integrity. When argon is available, the device features an automatic purge function that triggers a momentary purge before welding; it can also operate without argon gas. The physical dimensions are 220 W x 120 H x 250 mm D (8.7 x 4.7 x 9.9") with a weight of 4 kg (8.8 lb).
Front Panel Controls
- Arc: Argon gas and weld current controlled by the “Weld” switch; LED indication.
- Purge: Allows the gas line and electrode shield to be purged of air prior to a new welding period.
- Weld Switch: Initiates a welding operation (in “arc” mode also opens the Argon valve).
- Argon LED: Indicates when the Argon control valve is open and gas is flowing.
- Wait LED: Glows when weld charge is building.
- Ready LED: “Ready to Weld” indication.
- Power: Rotary control of the capacitor charge voltage.
- Level Selector: Selects total capacitance available with LED indication: “LO” = 0 to 6 Joules, “MED” = 0 to 28 Joules, “HI” = 0 to 64 Joules.
Safety and Operational Notes
- Always protect the eyes with a suitable filter during welding; never view weld discharge with the naked eye.
- Avoid touching the rear of the welder during operation as the power switch heat sink may run hot, which is a normal operating condition.
- Do not allow the hand to directly contact the welding electrode during operation.
Configuration Options
The TL-WELD Series includes standard accessories and optional replacement parts. The device supports front-panel controls or footswitch operation for one-handed use.
Included Accessories (Standard)

Key Product Differences
The series is identified by the model number guide: TL-WELD - <ACCESSORY>. The primary configuration, TL-WELD, describes the thermocouple and fine wire welder. Distinct part numbers exist for specific replacement components:
- TL-WELD: Thermocouple and fine wire welder.
- TL-WELD-CAR: Replacement carbon electrodes (package of 5).
- TL-WELD-PL: Spare insulated pliers for TL-WELD.
The instrument carries CE approval and includes a 1-year warranty. It is made in the United Kingdom.

Simple, and does the job well
We use this often, but not with the argon stream connected. Instead, a second person streams argon at the connector while the first makes the connection. Simpler and it works well.

Can this welder be used to weld Omega T Type thermocouple TT-T-24-SLE? What is the minimum exposed wire length needed to be able to weld?
Hi Shady
Thank you for the inquiry. We do not specify minimum exposed wire length. You'll want at least enough to be able to bring the tips together and to avoid melting the insulation.
Best regards

Please explain the difference between the TC and TL-Weld thermocouple junction welders...is it just accessories?
The TL-WELD has been offered by Omega for many years and the TC-WELD has been added recently. The specifications and functionality are very similar as well as the accessories. The TC-WELD is able to be offered at a more economical price through components used and manufacturing efficiency improvements.

I presume the TL-Weld comes with an argon gas attachment. I was thinking of using high power magnifying glass to buttweld 40 AWG Type C thermocouple wires, but my question is does this unit have enough power to do weld Type C wires?
Thank you for the inquiry. TL-WELD has 2 meter hose for argon purge gas. It does not include regulator.
For the Welding of Type C Wire: Type C, 0.003" wires following settings were used: LEVEL Lo Med Hi, MED selected. Power Dial set to Notch 5.
