Safety warnings specify that these heaters must not be immersed in liquid, used in hazardous locations, or operated without a temperature control device. The heater requires an appropriate heat sink (the device being heated) to operate safely.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configurability across dimensions, voltage ratings, and lead arrangements to accommodate specific installation requirements.

  • Voltage Options: Models are available for 120 V or 240 V operation. Note that all 240 V versions are not supplied with plugs; the integral molded separable plug is standard on 120 V models unless otherwise specified.
  • Sizes and Dimensions: Available widths include ½", 1", 1¼", 2½", and 3¼". Lengths range from 12 inches to 10 feet, with wattage scaling accordingly (e.g., FGS models ranging from 46 W at ½" x 12" up to over 1 kW for larger configurations).
  • Lead Configuration: Standard configuration features lead wires emerging from opposite ends into separate sides of an integrally molded separable plug. An option is available by adding the suffix 'LSE' to the model number, which routes leads exiting from the same end.

The three series within this bundle differ primarily in insulation thickness and suitability for conductive surfaces:

  • FGS Series (Standard Insulated): Designed with standard fiberglass insulation. The documentation explicitly states that FGS tape should not be used on a conductive surface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality heater tape This is a high quality heater tape that does exactly as specified. At 115 VAC & 1.7 Amperes it delivers the expected 195 watts. The only problem I had was finding a safe way to keep the tape securely wrapped around a spherical distillation flask.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Plug style is disappointing The reason I give 3 stars is that I’ve purchased other heating tapes from Omega in the past, and what I did not like about these is the plug halves being at different ends. It causes problems in reaching the controller box and gets in the way when wrapping it around my sample cylinders. (I like to stretch out the tape from one end to the other to maximize distance covered.) The tapes themselves work very well in terms of heating, but I would urge others to consider the spatial constraints when purchasing.

If I wrapped the reactor using this heating tape to heat from 20 C upto 120 C for 100 s, can I assume that the total energy used is 420 W * 100 s = 42 kJ?

Omega provides the Wattage for the Heaters at the specified Voltage and any Energy calculations with a time component would be the customers responsibility.

What is the minimum bending radius of these tapes? Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information on your website or in the technical sheets about this.
