Supported Applications
The EA2-IS-TX Series is the Easidew intrinsically safe dew-point transmitter from Michell Instruments, certified for hazardous-area use in flammable or explosive gas atmospheres. As a 2-wire, loop-powered instrument, it measures dew point directly in the process and reports it as a standard current signal, so trace moisture can be monitored safely in classified zones.
It is well suited to compressed air and gas drying, natural gas, hydrogen, and nitrogen systems, and other non-corrosive gas and clean-air applications where dryness must be verified. With global intrinsic-safety approvals, the EA2-IS-TX lets operators bring continuous moisture measurement into areas where explosion protection is mandatory.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The transmitter measures dew point down to -110 to +20°C (-166 to +68°F), with a companion range of -100 to +20°C (-148 to +68°F), and resolves readings to 0.1 °C. It holds an accuracy of ±0.5 °C / ±0.9 °F with a repeatability of ±0.2 °C, and delivers a typical T90 response of 10 seconds.
Output is a 4–20 mA loop signal with an additional 0–10 V option, powered from 10–30 VDC into a load of 0–600 Ω through an M12 connector. The sensor withstands operating pressure from 0–10 bar with a burst rating of 100 bar, and its wetted parts use 316L stainless steel with HDPE and PTFE.
The EA2-IS-TX carries an IP67 enclosure and tolerates vibration of 10–500 Hz at 1.5 mm peak-to-peak plus shock events of 11 ms duration. It operates over a process range of -100 to +220 °C and an ambient range of -40 to +85 °C, with storage to -40 to +85 °C. The compact probe measures 12 mm in diameter with a 100 mm insertion length and a 150 mm overall length. Intrinsic-safety approvals include ATEX, IECEx, UKCA, and cQPSus.
Configuration Options
The EA2-IS-TX is ordered as a configured transmitter, with a letter-based code that fixes each feature to the application. The configurable axes are:
- Type (process connection) — G1/2" BSP, 3/4" UNF, or 5/8" UNF to match the sampling point.
- Range — a -100 to +20°C or -110 to +20°C dew-point range, or a non-standard configured range.
- Units and pressure units — the analog scale can be expressed in °C or °F dew point, ppmV, or natural-gas moisture units, with pressure units set where required.
- Protection — a standard HDPE guard against fine particulates, or a stainless-steel sintered guard.
- Oxygen cleaning — standard, or cleaned for oxygen service, which is offered only with the stainless-steel sintered guard.
The most consequential capability choices are the process connection, which determines how the probe mounts, and the guard type, which governs both particulate protection and whether oxygen-service cleaning can be applied.
Key Product Differences
Ordering follows the parent code and its feature positions, EA2-IS-TX - <Type> - <Range> - <Units> - <Pressure Units> - <Protection> - <Oxygen Cleaning>. A worked example is EA2-IS-TX-A-A-R-A-A, and the concatenated feature-code models span the lineup from EA2-IS-TX-AAAA through configurations such as EA2-IS-TX-CBBA.
Under the previous ordering system, the same choices were expressed as numbered features: the process connection as B1 (G1/2" BSP), B2 (3/4" UNF), or B3 (5/8" UNF); the dew-point range as C1 (-100 to +20°C) or C2 (-110 to +20°C); the guard as D1 (HDPE) or D2 (SS sintered); and oxygen cleaning as J1. Across every configuration the intrinsically safe sensor platform is unchanged — the model number simply records the chosen connection, range, units, guard, and oxygen-cleaning options.
