Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series AFG Averaging Flow Grid is a duct-mounted pressure sensor designed to monitor air or compatible gas flow. The device functions by transmitting a continuous differential pressure signal, which can be connected to an external measuring instrument such as a manometer or pressure transducer to determine air velocity and volume flow rate.
It is engineered for installation in square, rectangular, or round ducts where the diagonal does not exceed 60.4" (153.4 cm) or the diameter exceeds 59.4" (150.9 cm). The series serves as a cost-effective alternative to other pressure sensors for fundamental velocity pressure sensing.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series AFG operates within an air temperature limit of 176°F (80°C) and is not suitable for conditions of high humidity or where sticky materials are present in the airstream, as deposits can affect calibration. The device covers a velocity range from 295.2 ft/min to 5904 ft/min (1.5 to 30 m/sec).
Performance specifications include an accuracy of ±5% and repeatability better than ±5% on any particular installation. Wetted materials in the assembly consist of 304 SS, PVC, polyurethane, acetyl plastics, and neoprene rubber.
Configuration Options
The series is supplied as a complete kit containing two probes and necessary installation hardware for workshop or on-site mounting. The unit features trimable lengths to accommodate duct sizes up to the maximum diagonal limit. Two primary configurations are available based on tube diameter:
- AFG-1: Features 5/16" (8 mm) tubes with an overall length of 27" (688 mm). Weight is 1 lb (454 g).
- AFG-2: Features 5/8" (16 mm) tubes with an overall length of 59-4/5" (1518 mm). Weight is 3 lb (1361 g).
The kit includes adapters, duct caps, drilling templates, diaphragms, elbows, tube caps, grommets, seals, and self-tapping screws. Process connections utilize a 5/16" barbed fitting.
Key Product Differences
Variation within the Series AFG is defined by the probe diameter and corresponding overall length to match duct dimensions. The AFG-1 model utilizes smaller 5/16" (8 mm) tubes for shorter reach applications, while the AFG-2 employs larger 5/8" (16 mm) tubes extended to nearly 60 inches for wider ducts.
Both models share identical wetted materials and temperature limits. The device is not field serviceable; if repair is needed, the unit must be returned rather than repaired on-site.
