Supported Applications

The Omega PRCTL Series consists of Cut-to-Length RTD (Resistive Temperature Device) probes designed for field-adaptable temperature measurement applications. These sensors feature a hermetically sealed construction with PFA insulated lead wires, allowing engineers to trim the sheath on-site using a standard tube cutter to match specific installation requirements.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The PRCTL series operates within a process temperature range of -50 to 260°C. The sensors are available in two accuracy classes per IEC standards: Class A with an accuracy of ±0.15°C @ 0°C, and Class B with an accuracy of ±0.30°C @ 0°C.

Key performance characteristics include:

  • Sensor Element: Platinum RTD (100 Ω at 0°C).
  • Electrical Connection: Standard 3-wire configuration; a 4-wire option is available by modifying the model number.
  • Color Coding: Wires follow IEC60751 and ASTM E-1137 standards.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configurability to accommodate diverse mechanical constraints. The 316 Stainless Steel sheath is field-cuttable, with a minimum length of 3" after trimming. Standard configurations include specific diameters and lengths, but the model number structure supports custom dimensions.

Sheath Dimensions

  • Diameters: Available in ¼", ⅜", 6 mm, and 4.5 mm.
  • Sensor Lengths: Standard lengths include 24" (imperial) or 600 mm (metric). Longer sheath lengths are available by specifying the desired length in the model number, with additional cost per inch or per 25 mm increment.

Lead Wire Options

  • Insulation: Standard PFA insulated lead wires; glass insulation is an option (add '-GG' to model number).
  • Protection: Stainless steel overbraid on the PFA insulated lead wires is available (add '-SB' to model number).
  • Wire Lengths: Standard lengths include 40" or 1 m. Longer wire runs are configurable by changing the length value in the model number, with additional cost per foot or per 300 mm.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the PRCTL series differ primarily by accuracy class (A vs. B), sheath diameter, and lead wire configuration. The standard offering is a 100 Ω sensor; however, variants with different resistance values exist in the broader catalog structure.

  • Accuracy Class: Models are designated as 'A' for IEC Class A or 'B' for IEC Class B accuracy.
  • Wire Configuration: The second digit of the model number indicates wire count: '2' denotes a 3-wire configuration, while changing this to '3' specifies a 4-wire setup.
  • Imperial vs. Metric: Model numbers reflect either imperial dimensions (inches) or metric dimensions (mm), with corresponding standard lengths of 24"/600 mm and wire lengths of 40"/1 m as baseline configurations.

Unfortunately Omega does not provide 3D drawings on any products and the best illustration is on the product pages for probes.
