Supported Applications
The Omega LV-120 Series Custom Level Switch Kits are designed for liquid level monitoring in tanks and drums. The series supports applications involving clean liquids as well as dirty or viscous liquids. Specific documented usage includes fuels, water at temperatures below 180°F, and high-pressure corrosive liquids up to 750 psi.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LV-120 Series operates with a user-selectable Normally Open or Normally Closed SPST switch rated for 20 VA. The series offers two primary material configurations with distinct performance envelopes:
- Liquid Temperature (Brass/Buna N): Oil from 0°F to 230°F; Water from 33°F to 180°F.
- Liquid Temperature (All 316 SS): -40°C to 135°C (-40°F to 275°F).
- Ambient Temperature: Matches process limits for each material configuration.
- Maximum Fluid Pressure: 150 psi (Brass/Buna N); 759 psi (All 316 SS).
The switch utilizes a hermetically sealed, magnetically actuated make and break mechanism. Electrical connection is provided via a 1/2" NPT-F conduit thread.
Configuration Options
The series provides configurable assembly for one or two station level switches with the capability to add additional stations up to six per stem. Key configuration options include:
- Wetted Materials: Brass fittings with Buna N floats (LV-120) or All 316 Stainless Steel components (LV-121).
- Process Connection: 2" NPT mounting plug.
- Tube Dimensions: ½" OD tube; maximum assembled length approximately 30". Extension tubes and unions are available as accessories to increase reach or add stations.
- Float Specific Gravity: 0.55 (Buna N); 0.65 (Stainless Steel).
To accommodate specific fluid densities, the series requires adding 0.1 to the float specific gravity for clean liquids and 0.3 for dirty or viscous liquids.
Key Product Differences
The LV-120 Series distinguishes between two primary kit configurations based on material composition:
- LX-120 (Brass/Buna N): Designed for fuels and water below 180°F with a maximum pressure rating of 150 psi. Includes brass fittings, Buna N floats, and nylon fitting ferrules.
- LX-121 (All 316 SS): Engineered for high temperature up to 275°F (-40°C to 135°C) and corrosive liquids with a maximum pressure rating of 759 psi. Includes all stainless steel components.
Operation is reversed from Normally Open to Normally Closed by inverting the float on its stem during assembly. For switching inductive or capacitive loads, such as magnetic relay coils, a voltage spike suppression kit (part number 1821-101) is required.
