Supported Applications

The Omega MTC series consists of crimp-style thermocouple pin and socket contacts designed for use with multi-pin connector assemblies. These precision CNC-machined components provide a means to join multi-wire thermocouple cables, enabling the rapid connection and dismantling of apparatus without handling individual sensors. The design is intended for integration into systems utilizing Omega Multipair Extension Cables.

While these specific contacts do not carry a MIL spec number, they are engineered to meet the performance requirements of MIL-C 26500E. Consequently, MTC contacts are intermateable with connectors built to the MIL-C 26500 standard. The series supports thermocouple types J (Iron/Constantan), K (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®), T (Copper/Constantan), E (CHROMEGA®/Constantan), and N (OMEGA-P®/OMEGA-N®).

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MTC contacts are manufactured from thermocouple alloy materials to ensure compatibility with the connected sensor elements. The associated connector system is designed to withstand ambient temperatures up to 392°F (200°C), contributing to extended service life in elevated temperature environments.

To maintain signal integrity, the design utilizes a combination of resilient and rigid dielectric insulators intended to eliminate internal air voids. This construction prevents the passage of air and moisture into or through the connector assembly. The contacts feature color-coding for easy identification during installation and maintenance.

Configuration Options

The MTC series offers a range of alloy-specific pins (male) and sockets (female), each identified by specific model codes, coding colors, and letters corresponding to the thermocouple type. The available configurations include:

  • Type J: Iron (+) contacts coded BLK M; Constantan (-) contacts coded YEL N.
  • Type K: CHROMEGA® (+) contacts coded WHT P; ALOMEGA® (-) contacts coded GRN R.
  • Type T: Copper (+) contacts coded RED C; Constantan (-) contacts coded YEL N.
  • Type E: CHROMEGA® (+) contacts coded WHT P; Constantan (-) contacts coded YEL N.
  • Type N: OMEGA-P®(+) contacts coded Orange OP; OMEGA-N®(-) contacts coded Blue ON.

In addition to alloy-specific contacts, the series includes Gold-Plated (Uncompensated) Copper options. These are identified by color bands: Pins feature BLUE, RED, VIOLET bands, while Sockets feature RED, BLUE, BLK bands.

Key Product Differences

The MTC contacts utilize a crimp-type attachment method and require specific tools for proper assembly. The series includes the following accessories:

  • MTC-IT: Insertion tool required to insert contacts into the connector body.
  • MTC-RT: Removal tool designed for extracting contacts.
  • MTC-CT: Heavy Duty Crimping Tool necessary for crimping and assembling connectors properly; MS standard assembly tools are recommended with first purchase.

The series also offers sealing plugs (model MTC-HP) to cover unused positions within the connector body. Grommets are available upon consultation with Sales. When ordering, bodies must be selected in mating pairs: Style MC mates with both style FF and style FC backshells. Backshell cable clamps are recommended for each cord-style connector.

What is the difference between this contacts and the Crimp-Style Thermocouple Pin & Socket Contacts - Hollow Core (HPC-AL-S)? Which is 5 times the price of MTC-AL-S... Is this good for thermocouple type K (5TC-TT-K-40-72-ROHS), with diameter as 0.08mm?

Asked by: seraph3
The MTC pins and sockets are precision machined and used with the MTC housings. The HPC are stamped pins and sockets and are usually used in the SMTC connectors but can be used in MTC housings as well. The MTC's are individual and the HPC come in packs of 20 and both are used with 20 or 24 AWG stranded wires.

In what package quantity are the thermocouple pins and sockets in the MTC series? Is the quote price per each, or are multiple items included in an order quantity of one?

Asked by: Anonymous
These pins are sold individually. e.g. cost for MTC-IR-P "iron pin" is $16.65 each. Thank you for your question.

I ordered 2 EA of MTC-5-MC and 2 EA of MTC-5-FF What pins and sockets do i need to purchase for this. They are for connection of non contact infrared temperature sensors to a testing enclosure used to monitor our rebuilt equipment

Asked by: Dustin
You will need the copper pins, male and female: MTC-CU-P- and MTC-CU-S. OR if you want them gold-plated for longer lasting connection, use MTC-AU-P and MC-AU-S. Thank you.

I'm looking for a type E pin but the drop down list only shows a K,E option. Do you have just the type E pin?

Asked by: lester
Thank you for your inquiry. The reason you see the K, E option is because both K type and E type thermocouples use the same alloy for the positive lead and the same applies for the negative lead for J, T and E types. Here are the part numbers for the E type pins: +ve lead - Item# MTC-CH-P, -ve lead - Item# MTC-CO-P.

My copper thermocouple pins (HPC-CU-P) are getting corrosion. They are installed in a MTC-24-MC connector with a MTC-24-SHL back shell. Have you seen this before? Any advice on how to prevent or slow this down?

Asked by: JackW
Hi JackW, We do not offer a water sealing boot to fit the MTC series unfortunately. 3rd party supplier may offer protective boot to cover the MTC connectors. We have a boot to cover the SMPW and OSTW connectors but nothing similar for the MTC's. Best regards OMEGA
