Supported Applications

The Omega TAT3 Series consists of tubular industrial process drum immersion heaters designed to fit through standard 51 mm (2") bung openings in 55-gallon drums. These units are intended for improving the flow of high-viscosity materials, including lard, tar, oils, and other high viscosity solutions.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TAT3 Series features a double-pole thermostat with an operating range of 16 to 121°C (60 to 250°F), incorporating an over-temperature cutout and pilot lamp. The design limits the vertical heated portion to only 203 mm (8") extending up from the bottom of the element, allowing for liquid level fluctuation without damaging the heater.

Available configurations in the series include watt densities of 8 or 32 watt/in² (1.2 or 5.0 watt/cm²) and power ratings of 1000 or 4000 watts at voltages of 120 Vac or 240 Vac, depending on sheath material selection.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options across sheath materials, terminal enclosures, wiring methods, and sensor integration to meet specific installation requirements:

  • Sheath Materials: Copper, Stainless Steel, or Steel.
  • Terminal Enclosures: NEMA 4 (Moisture Resistant) and/or NEMA 7 (Explosion Resistant).
  • External Power Wiring Options: Flexible Cord/Plug, Armored Cable, Wire Braided or Plain Lead Wire.
  • Sensor Integration: Process or Hi-Limit Thermocouple in a thermowell available in place of the thermostat.
  • Surface Treatments: Passivation, Electropolished, or Bright Annealed surface treatments are available for Stainless Steel or Incoloy sheath designs.

All units include an adjustable stainless steel mounting bracket. Custom engineered heaters with different "A" and "B" dimensions can be manufactured upon request to meet specific requirements not listed in standard configurations.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the TAT3 Series are distinguished by sheath material, watt density, power rating, and voltage. The series includes models such as:

  • Copper Sheath Models (e.g., TAT30003, TAT30004): Offered at 1000 watts/8 watt/in² or 4000 watts/32 watt/in².
  • Stainless Steel Sheath Models (e.g., TAT30002, TAT30001): Available in the same power and density configurations as copper variants.
  • Steel Sheath Models (e.g., TAT30005, TAT30006): Provided with 1000 watts/8 watt/in² or 4000 watts/32 watt/in² ratings.

All standard models share identical overall dimensions: Dimension A is 914 mm (36 inch) and Dimension B is 483 mm (19 inch).
