The Omega MT series is a clean water immersion heater designed for liquids with a pH range of 6 to 8. These units feature heavy-duty construction and are intended for use in non-hazardous areas, as explicitly noted in the product documentation.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MT series operates on 1- or 3-phase power with voltage options of 120, 208, 240, and 480 Vac. Power ratings span from 3 kW to 18 kW. The heating element utilizes a copper sheath with a diameter of 1.2 cm (0.475"). Surface watt densities in the documented configuration range vary between 46 W/in² and 53 W/in² depending on the specific power rating.

Process connection is provided via a 2½ NPT fitting. The series requires an approved temperature control device to ensure safe operation; it does not include internal controls as standard equipment in this configuration.

Configuration Options

The MT-3 heater series offers configurable options across power ratings, voltage inputs, phase configurations, and enclosure types to meet specific installation requirements.

  • Power Ratings: Available from 3 kW up to 18 kW in increments including 3.75, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12, and 15 kW.
  • Voltage & Phase: Supports 1- or 3-phase power at 120, 208, 240, and 480 Vac. Model numbers require suffix designation for voltage (e.g., "120V", "208V") and phase (suffix "3P" for 3-phase).
  • Enclosure Types:
    • E1: General Purpose Enclosure, UL listed and CSA certified.
    • E2: Explosion/Moisture-Resistant Enclosure, CSA NRTL/C certified. Note that E2 enclosures are not intended for use in hazardous areas despite the explosion-resistant designation; they provide moisture resistance and specific safety certifications per the data sheet.
  • Dimensions: Overall dimension B varies by power rating, ranging from 19 cm (7⅜") at 3 kW to 120 cm (47⅜") at 18 kW. Conduit openings are provided as a 1.9 inch hole for E1 models and a 3/4 NPT opening for E2 models.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between General Purpose (E1) and Explosion/Moisture-Resistant (E2) enclosures. Heaters with general purpose enclosures are UL listed and CSA certified, while those with moisture-resistant/explosion-resistant enclosures carry CSA NRTL/C certification.

Models rated above 48 amps (specifically the 12 kW, 15 kW, and 18 kW configurations) are not UL listed, CSA certified, or CSA NRTL/C certified. These higher-power units require specific ordering suffixes to denote voltage and phase configuration accurately.
