The Omega Copper Extension Wire series is designed for use in temperature sensing systems, specifically as extension wire for sanitary RTD and thermistor applications. Operating Conditions & Performance

Performance limits vary by the selected insulation material. According to the specification table:

  • Glass braid insulated wire (EXGG series) is rated for a maximum temperature of 482°C (900°F).
  • PFA insulated wire (EXTT series, also referenced as Neoflon® PFA in the overview) is rated to 260°C (500°F).
  • Polyvinyl (PVC) insulated wire (EXPP series) is rated to 105°C (221°F).

A note accompanying the data states that maximum temperature ratings apply to whichever component—wire or insulation—is lower. The conductor material for all listed configurations is Copper.

Conductor and Insulation Specifications

  • Glass braid: Available in 20 AWG (Solid) and 26 AWG (7 x 34 stranded).

  • Unshielded: Standard configurations without a braid shield (indicated by "None" in the Braid column).
  • SST Shield: Stainless steel braided shields are available for specific models, denoted by an "-SB" suffix or listed as "SST" in the specification table.

Color Coding and Jacketing

The series utilizes distinct color codes to differentiate conductors:

  • ANSI-style coding (Black/Red): Models with Black outer jackets typically use 1 Red / 1 Black, 2 Red / 2 Black, or similar combinations.
  • IEC-style coding (White/Red): Models designated for IEC applications often feature White conductors paired with Red. For example, the EXGG-2CUI model lists "1 Red 1 White" and a White outer jacket color.

Lengths and Spooling

The series is offered in various lengths including feet (e.g., 25', 100', 500', 1000') and meters (e.g., 7.5M, 15M, 30M, 150M). A note indicates that conductors can be welded or spliced within the spool.

The series is segmented by insulation material and conductor construction:

  • Glass Braid (EXGG): Designed for high-temperature service up to 482°C. These models feature a glass braid outer jacket and are available with or without an SST shield.

How do you strip the white jacket/insulation off of the 4 wire RTD? I have a problem nicking the black and red insulated wires. I also have a major fraying issue with all of the insulation on these.

Thank you for connecting with Omega. We have large automated machines that do the wire stripping for our production. Unfortunately we no longer sell the handheld thermal wire strippers. These devices had a unique gage stop that limits how much insulation material to cut.

Hi, I’m looking for a 4-wire RTD for a setup that requires very high-precision temperature measurements. Do you have any recommendations? Also, are these 4-wire RTDs typically vacuum compatible?

There are what is known as 1/10 DIN accuracy RTD's which have the highest precision. If you use a sheathed probe RTD and extend it into the Vacuum those are compatible but other types would need to be reviewed. You can send follow up questions to temp@dwyeromega.com.

What is the difference between EXTT-2CUI-26S and EXTT-2CU-26S

Thank you for your inquiry. The only difference is: EXTT-2CUI-26S has the IEC color code standard which would be a red and a white wire and EXTT-2CU-26S has the ANSI color code standard which would be a red and a black wire.

What are the dimensions of the EXPP-4CU-24S?
