Supported Applications

The Dwyer Model BPS-005 is a compact DC power supply designed to convert 24 VAC/VDC input into a regulated DC power source. It is used primarily for powering transmitters with 4 to 20 mA outputs in building automation systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The unit accepts an input of 24 VAC/VDC at 50/60 Hz and provides a full-wave rectified and regulated output adjustable from 1.5 to 29 VDC. The Model BPS-005 is rated for a maximum current output of 0.5 A, protected by a 1 A fuse against over-current conditions.

Operating temperature limits are specified as 32 to 130°F (0 to 55°C), with humidity tolerance up to 95% non-condensing. The unit weighs 0.4 lb and meets the technical requirements of EU Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS II).

Configuration Options

The series includes configurable options for isolation, current limiting, and common ground configurations via on-board jumpers.

• Voltage Adjustment: Field-adjustable output from 1.5 to 29 VDC using an onboard potentiometer.
• Mounting: Features a compact snap track design for surface mounting within a panel or on flat surfaces via a snap-on bracket.
• Isolation and Grounding Configurations:
  • If DC ground is connected to AC ground, the fuse will open; isolation can be achieved by moving jumpers from J1 to J2 and adding a jumper to J3 (limits output current to 400 mA).
  • For applications where input and output share a common or ground: On BPS-005, add a jumper between 'G' on the input and '-' on the output and cut one lead on diode D3. This reduces output to 200 mA.
• Current Limiting Warning: To prevent overheating, output current must not exceed the ratio of output voltage to input voltage times rated current (e.g., at 5 VDC output, max current is 313 mA).

Key Product Differences

The BPS series includes two primary models with distinct dimensional and performance profiles:

• BPS-005: Low-cost DC power supply rated for 0.5 A maximum output. Dimensions are 3 in [76.20] width x 2-13/32 in [61.19] height x 2-1/16 in [52.28] depth.
• BPS-015: A variant with a maximum current output of 1.5 A (per family manual data). Dimensions are 4-1/16 in [103.12] width x 2-19/64 in [58.17] height x 1-15/16 in [49.02] depth.
