Supported Applications

The Omega LVSW-710/720 series consists of compact solid-state ultrasonic point level switches designed for detecting liquid levels in vessels or pipes. These devices serve as a replacement for mechanical float-type liquid level devices, utilizing proven ultrasonic technology and integral electronics to eliminate issues associated with stickiness and finite mechanical life inherent in moving-part designs.

The series is engineered for reliable operation in virtually any liquid regardless of viscosity. The fully epoxy-sealed electronics combined with 316 LSS wetted materials provide maintenance-free service suitable for side-mounted installations where a compact footprint is required.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LVSW-710/720 series operates within a process temperature range of -29 to 80°C (-20 to 176°F). The switches are rated for pressures up to 250 psig (1724 kPa) and feature a repeatability of 2 mm or better. Response time is specified at 0.5 sec, with leakage current maintained below 50 uA.

Power requirements span from 5 to 30 Vdc. The electronics include protection against transients and reverse polarity. Wetted materials are constructed from 316 LSS (stainless steel), ensuring durability in liquid environments.

Configuration Options

The series is available in two primary configurations distinguished by process connection size, with specific dimensional envelopes for each model:

  • LVS swing-710 (LVSW-710): Features a ¼ NPT thread. Overall length measures 47.6 mm (1.875 in) or 1.975 [50.1mm] depending on the reference document, with an alarm point to thread distance of .375 [9.5mm].
  • LVS swing-720 (LVSW-720): Features a ½ NPT thread. Overall length measures 60 mm (2.365 in) or 2.385 [60.1mm], maintaining the same .375 [9.5mm] alarm point to thread dimension.

Both models include a hex nut with a diameter of .75 [19.1mm] and height of .250 [6.35mm]. The switches are wired with color-coded wires (Green, Black, Red, White, Brown) to support different output configurations including Source Output, Sink Output, or Relay Output.

Electrical connections utilize a 300 mm (12") wire length. An optional unregulated 24 Vdc power supply is available under model number PSU-93.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two models in this series is the process connection thread size:

  • LVS swing-710 (LVSW-710): Configured with a ¼ NPT level switch, featuring a 316 LSS SPST NO relay.
  • LVS swing-720 (LVSW-720): Configured with a ½ NPT level switch, also featuring a 316 LSS SPST NO relay.

The series carries CE certification and includes a 1-year warranty. Installation requires side mounting; the unit must not be opened in hazardous environments without disconnecting power at the source.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Missing document info I couldn't find any documentation that describes the cable/wire information (gauge, insulation/jacket type, etc), so I wrote this review to provide that: The cable that was attached to mine is a Belden 9535, and Belden provides a nice spec sheet on their website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sensor - Would Like to See Future Variations Sensor operating voltage is versatile (5-30VDC). My application uses 6VDC. Sensor is compact enough to make it work in tight areas. It is 1/2” NPT and 3” long. I would love to see the following variations in the future: 1) Make the wiring via a connector instead of cable coming out connector. This will allow easy removal. 2) If point 1 is not possible, make the cable longer, maybe 6-ft. 3) Make another sensor with longer length; may be 2-in longer. This will allow the shorter one to be used for level control, while the longer used for low level alarm.

Can the sensor be mounted vertically?

Asked by: jramos
Unfortunately, these level switches are only intended for side mounting. Please consider the LVSW-701 as an alternative that can be mounted in any direction.

Can the LVSW-710/720 sensors be submerged in water - to a depth of about 20ft? I'm considering using a short array of them to measure liquid level movement - the deeper ones would be always submerged and as the test proceeds the level will rise.

Asked by: nickw
Thank you for your inquiry for the level switch. Unfortunately, it cannot be submersed since the cable shown is not water proof, only potted.
