Supported Applications
The Omega UFM-DWG Series is a clamp-on transit time ultrasonic flow meter designed for measuring the volumetric flow of clean water in pipes ranging from 2.5 inches to 10 inches (DN65...DN250). The series measures flow rate, total volume, and velocity without requiring pipe cutting or tapping. Documented applications include building automation, water distribution, and wastewater collection systems.
Specific fluid services supported by the UFM-DWG Series include:
- Potable water
- Reclaimed water
- Chiller water
- Boiler feed water
- Make-up water
- Condenser water
- Condensate
The meter is suitable for water containing small amounts of suspended solids or gas bubbles.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The UFM-DWG Series operates with a velocity range of 0.1...40 ft/s (0.03...12 m/s) bidirectional. Flow accuracy varies by pipe size and transducer type:
- JZ, KZ, NZ, RZ, WZ for pipes > 2 in. (50 mm): ±1% of reading or ±0.01 ft/s (0.003 m/s), whichever is greater
- CA-CT transducers for 1...2 in. (25...50 mm) pipes: ±1% of reading ±0.03 ft/s (0.01 m/s)
- Transducers for 3/4 in. (20 mm) and smaller are accurate to ±1% full scale
The series offers a repeatability of ±0.2% of reading.
Configuration Options
The UFM-DWG Series supports multiple transducer configurations, transmitter mounting options, and communication protocols to accommodate diverse installation requirements.
Transducers & Mounting
- RZ (IP54): Standard pipe; PBT glass filled construction with PVC cable jacket. Temperature range: -40...250° F (-40...121° C). Cable length up to 300 ft (90 m).
- NZ (IP67): Standard pipe; CPVC, Ultem construction with Polyethylene cable jacket. Temperature range: -40...194° F (-40...90° C). Cable length up to 300 ft (90 m).
- WZ (IP68): Standard pipe, submersible; CPVC, Ultem construction with Polyethylene cable jacket. Temperature range: -40...194° F (-40...90° C). Cable length up to 300 ft (90 m).
- JZ, KZ (IP54): Standard pipe with integrated rail; PBT glass filled construction. Temperature range: -40...250° F (-40...121° C). Cable length up to 100 ft (30 m).
- CA...CT: Fixed small pipe transducers for pipes 0.5...2 in. (12...50 mm) with CPVC, Ultem construction and Polyethylene cable jacket.
Housing & Display Options
The transmitter enclosure is IP66 rated polycarbonate. Mounting options include wall or pipe remote mount or integral mount; the enclosure can be rotated in 90° increments. The display option includes a 128 × 64 pixel LED backlit graphical display with adjustable brightness and timeout, featuring a membrane keypad with domed tactile feedback.
Outputs & Connectivity
The series provides two selectable outputs (frequency, pulse, forward/reverse flow, or alarm) as isolated open collector (5...30V DC, 50 mA maximum). Additional output capabilities include:
- Digital alarm output: configurable high or low
- Frequency output: 63 Hz...10 kHz maximum
- Pulse (totalizer) output: 100 Hz maximum, pulse width 5...500 ms programmable
- Analog Output: 0...20 mA and 4...20 mA drive up to 800 Ohms; minimum 16-bit resolution, isolated
- Networks: EIA-485 with Modbus RTU or BACnet MS/TP (baud rates 9600 through 115200)
- Connectivity to AquaCUE or BEACON cellular endpoints
Power & Environmental Ratings
A Class II power supply is required; the meter operates on 9...28V DC @ 5 W maximum. Ambient operating temperature ranges are -4...140° F (-20...60° C) with display and -40...158° F (-40...70° C) without display. Storage temperature is rated from -40...176° F (-40...80° C).
Key Product Differences
The UFM-DWG Series model number construction defines specific configurations for certification, transducer type, transmitter mounting, and units of measure.
- Certification: 'G' denotes General Area, CE compliance. Optional certifications include FM Class 3810:2018, ANSI/ISA 61010-1:2012, ANSI/IEC 60529:2004, CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 61010-1:2012, and CSA C22.2 No. 60529:2005.
- Transducer Type: Codes such as RZ (IP54), NZ (IP67), WZ (IP68 submersible), JZ/KZ (Integrated rail IP54), and CA...CT (Fixed small pipe) define the sensor construction, cable jacket material, temperature limits, and supported pipe sizes.
- Transmitter Type: 'E' indicates 24V DC Meter Mounted; 'F' indicates 24V DC Remoted Mounted.
- Display: 'S' provides a Standard display with keypad; 'W' is No display with keypad.
- Cable & Conduit Lengths: Configurable remote cable lengths include None (WW), 15 ft, 30 ft, 50 ft, 75 ft, and 100 ft. Conduit options follow similar length codes but are not available with Easy Rail transducers.
- Units of Measure: Configurable totalizer/flow rate units include Gallons (G), Cubic Meters (T/H), Cubic Feet (F/J), Liters (N/P/Q), Million Gallons (M), and Acre Feet (A).

Very slow customer service
Very slow customer support. Device has power and display backlight is on but no digits. Customer support tells me to check transformer fuses and power, doesn't understand device has power. Was able to connect with a USB cable and programmed it so there's a reading until I hear back from warranty department, which is not faster than customer service. It's been a few days and still waiting for anyone to follow up with me.

What is the maximum allowable piping insulation thickness (or does the instrument need to be in contact with outside wall of the piping)?
Thank you for your inquiry. The transducers must be in direct contact with the pipe wall inorder for the ultrasonic to penetrate thru and measure the flow rate.

What is the update rate of this flowmeter?
Thank you for your inquiry! The update rate can vary but the default damping setting for these units is 40 seconds. Please see page 28 of the manual for further information regarding settings that affect the response time of the unit.
