Supported Applications

The Omega CT87 Series is a precision temperature recorder designed to monitor and record temperature on a 152 mm (6") circular chart. The series supports applications in freezers, refrigerators, ovens, and process chambers. It functions as either a portable instrument or can be mounted in a fixed location.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CT87 Series utilizes a Type J thermocouple input with an accuracy of ±1°C (±2°F). Ambient operating conditions are rated for 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F) and relative humidity from 0 to 96%. The recorder features a chart speed accuracy of ±1%.

Temperature measurement ranges vary by model configuration:

  • Low Temperature Models (CT87L):
  • Fahrenheit: -40 to 30°F, -20 to 50°F, and 50 to 120°F.
  • Celsius: -40 to 0°C, -30 to 10°C, and 10 to 50°C.
  • High Temperature Models (CT87H):
  • Fahrenheit: 0 to 250°F, 0 to 500°F, and 500 to 1000°F.
  • Celsius: 0 to 120°C, 0 to 250°C, and 250 to 500°C.

Chart rotation is selectable for single turn or continuous operation with speeds of 6-hr, 24-hr, or 7 days. The unit includes an automatic battery backup capable of maintaining operation for up to 48 hours using eight "AA" alkaline batteries during power interruptions.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options across voltage inputs, temperature scales, and sensor types:

  • Housing & Display: Durable Polycarbonate case with dimensions 235 H x 184 W x 70 mm L (9¼ x 7¼ x 2¾"). Weight is 2.2 kg (4 lb, 7 oz). Features a 3 digit LED display measuring 13 mm (0.5") and an ink-type recording pen.
  • Power Supply: Available in 115 Vac or 220 Vac at 50/60 Hz configurations.
  • Sensor Connections: Plug-In SMP Connection for J Thermocouple. Low temperature models include a CT87-J-NP needle probe (4" L, ⅛" Dia, 304 SS). High temperature models include a TC-GG-J-24-72-SMP-M beaded wire thermocouple probe.
  • Approvals & Warranty: CE marked and eligible for the OMEGACARE™ Extended Warranty Program (extends standard warranty to 4 years).

Key Product Differences

The CT87 Series is divided into Low Temperature (CT87L) and High Temperature (CT87H) families, further distinguished by scale units:

  • Model Suffixes:
  • C: Celsius models.
  • F: Fahrenheit models.

Voltage variants are indicated by the suffix "-220" for 220 Vac operation; standard models operate on 115 Vac. The series includes specific replacement parts such as CT87-PEN-BLACK (replacement pen), CT87-J-NP (low temp probe with 4.6 m leads), and TC-GG-J-24-72-SMP-M-PP (high temp sensor, 6' L).

So far, so good!!!

The manual show's these are adjustable. We have 3 and one seems to have fallen out of calibration. The hole for temperature calibration seems to need a specific tool. Is this required?
