Supported Applications

The Omega XC Series consists of Nextel®-covered flexible thermocouple elements designed for high-temperature applications. These ceramic-insulated sensors feature a flexible design intended for hard-to-reach locations and are compatible with OMEGA® ceramic protection tubes and wells.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports continuous use up to 1200°C (2200°F) or short-term exposure up to 1425°C (2600°F). Accuracy meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) of ANSI MC96.1-1982 and EN 60584-2, Tolerance Class 1. Temperature limitations are determined by the type of thermocouple material selected.

Measurement Ranges

The available temperature ranges vary by thermocouple type and AWG size:

 • Type K: 0 to 1090°C (32 to 2000°F) for 14 AWG; 0 to 980°C (32 to 1800°F) for 20 and 24 AWG
 • Type J: 0 to 590°C (32 to 1100°F) for 14 AWG; 0 to 480°C (32 to 900°F) for 20 AWG; 0 to 370°C (32 to 700°F) for 24 AWG
 • Type E: 0 to 650°C (32 to 1200°F) for 14 AWG; 0 to 540°C (32 to 1000°F) for 20 AWG; 0 to 430°C (32 to 800°F) for 24 AWG
 • Type N: 0 to 1090°C (32 to 2000°F) for 14 AWG; 0 to 980°C (32 to 1800°F) for 20 and 24 AWG

Configuration Options

The XC Series is configurable across multiple dimensions including thermocouple type, wire gauge, length, insulation material, and connector options.

Sensor Elements & Insulation

 • Thermocouple Types: K, J, E, N
 • American Wire Gauge (AWG): 14, 20, 24
 • Insulation Material: Nextel® ceramic fiber insulation is standard. Silica insulation is available by changing the series prefix from 'XC' to 'XS' with no additional cost.
 • Overbraiding: Stainless steel or Inconel® overbraiding for abrasion protection (consult Sales).

Dimensions & Termination

 • Standard Length: 300 mm (12"). Other lengths are available; to order longer elements, change the '12' in the model number to indicate the actual length required.
 • Termination: 13 mm (0.5") stripped end termination with color-coded leads.

Connector Options

Add the following codes to the model number for additional cost:

 • M8-S-M: Male straight M8 plug
 • M12-S-M: Male straight M12 plug (listed as 'M12-S-M' in options; note that right-angled 12mm is also listed as 'M12-S-M' in the source text)
 • M8-R-M: Male right-angled M8 plug
 • Male right-angled M12 plug (add to model number for additional cost)

Assembly Integration

OMEGA can combine these elements with thermowells and industrial heads to produce a complete head and well assembly, available for fast delivery.

Key Product Differences

The primary variation within the series is defined by the model number format: XC-<AWG>-<Type>-12 (example: XC-20-J-12). The 'XC' prefix denotes Nextel® ceramic fiber insulation, while changing this to 'XS' specifies silica insulation. Specific lengths are indicated in inches at the end of the part number.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thermocouple I bought this a few weeks ago. I've had issue with the metal ring that holds the sheathing on but other than that it's been a good sturdy product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from XC-24-K and 5TC-TT-K-20-36 Using XC-24-K and 5TC-TT-K-20-36 since 8 and 1 year respectively. Former is very sturdy and insulation works fine till 800C for about a week of continuous exposure. ( max. we tried), Latter is very responsive to small temperature changes but amenable to insulation damage at high temperatures. Both has a very minimal (<0.1 degree) noise when used with standard recorder?controllers- Omega: OMDAQXL or Eurotherm: Nanodac or 2416 Overall a good and stable response.

Can I use a Campbell Scientific data logger to record readings? What is the output of the sensors?

Asked by: scottyS
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we are not familiar with Campbell Scientific data loggers. The output will be in mV. As long as the datalogger is capable of reading thermocouple signals, it should work.

Hi, how inaccurate will the XC-20-K-24 (TC) be if I buy without calibration?

Asked by: kensho
Without the calibration the tolerance specifications would be +/- 1.1°C or 0.4%.
