Supported Applications
The Omega LV3000 and LV4000 Series are capacitance continuous level measurement probes designed for flexible, cost-effective monitoring of liquids, pastes, and some solids. These sensors provide a proportional output signal suitable for industrial applications involving water, oils, corrosives, conductive media, and non-conductive media.
The series supports the following application contexts:
- Continuous level measurement in tanks
- Monitoring of liquids, pastes, granules, powders, and solids
- Handling both conductive and non-conductive process materials
- Sanitary mounting configurations for specific hygiene requirements
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LV3000/LV4000 Series probes operate within a process temperature range of -10 to 120°C (14 to 248°F). High-temperature configurations with PTFE sleeving are available for temperatures up to 177°C (350°F), and specific high-temperature options extend capability to 200°C (382°F) when the "HTPTFE" suffix is applied. The ambient operating temperature range is -20 to 70°C (-4 to 158°F).
Performance specifications include an accuracy of 0.5% and repeatability of ±1 mm. The measurement range covers 0 to 1000%, with a sensitivity range of 100 to 5500 pF for the LV4000 Series (and 50 to 1000 pF for LVCN410 controllers). Maximum pressure rating is 290 psi (20 bar).
Zero and span adjustments are provided via potentiometer to account for media properties, tank dimensions, rod lengths, and installation positions. The electronic circuitry rectifies incoming power, generates a radio frequency signal at 400 kHz oscillation frequency, and measures changes in current flow.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options for insulation connections, process connections, enclosures, rod lengths, and temperature ratings. The LV3000 Series requires an LVCN410 Series controller (LVCN411 or LVCN412), while the LV4000 Series probes require a galvanic isolator, LI-420.
Insulation and Wetted Materials
- X=0: 316 SS rod (bare stainless steel)
- X=1: PTFE sleeve (recommended for conductive materials to prevent short circuits between the probe and tank wall)
- High-temperature PTFE sleeving available with "HTPTFE" suffix
Process Connections
- Threaded: ¼ NPT, 1 NPT, or 1½ NPT (Y=1, Y=2, Y=3)
- Sanitary: 1.5 Tri-Grip™ connection (Y=4)
- Flange: 2" ANSI 150# in 316 SS (Y=5); other flanges available to order
Housing and Enclosure Options
- Z=1: Glass-filled nylon with ½ NPT conduit entry and cable gland; Class Protection IP40 for LVCN410 controllers, NEMA 4 (IP65) for LV3000 probes.
- Z=2/Z=3: Aluminum die cast with ½ NPT conduit or cable gland entry; NEMA 4 (IP65).
Dimensions and Lengths
- Probe diameter: 16 mm (⅝")
- Maximum probe length: 1.8 m (6')
- Standard lengths include 24", 36", 48", and 60"; custom lengths available to order.
- Housing dimensions vary by material: Nylon head is 89 W x 64 mm H (3.5 x 2.5"); Aluminum die-cast head is 89 W x 108 mm H (3.5 x 4¼").
Key Product Differences
The LV3000 and LV4000 Series differ primarily in their electronic architecture and required accessories:
- LVCN410/LV3000 Configuration: The LV3000 probes utilize a remote electronics module (LVCN410 Series). Models LVCN411 operate on 24 Vdc, while LVCN412 operates on 115 Vac. These controllers provide two SPDT relays and a 4 to 20 mA output.
- LV4000 Configuration: The LV4000 probes feature an integrated electronics module within the housing, providing a direct 4 to 20 mA (2-wire) loop-powered output. This series requires the LI-420 galvanic isolator for operation.
Housing materials distinguish variants: glass-filled nylon housings are lighter and smaller compared to aluminum die-cast heads, which offer NEMA 4 (IP65) protection suitable for washdown or wet environments. Electrical connections utilize a cable gland with ½ NPT conduit entry.
