Supported Applications

The Omega CAB and CABB series are low temperature air duct heaters designed for controlled air heating applications. Documented uses include serving as sole heat sources, booster heaters in process and comfort heating ducts, and the conversion of existing forced air dryers and ovens.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports power ratings from 6 to 100 kW with electrical supply options of 120, 208, 240, and 480V in 1 or 3 Phase configurations. Maximum outlet air temperature is rated at 440°F for chrome steel sheath units operating at an air velocity of 16 ft/sec.

Performance parameters are governed by watt density; maximum temperatures listed assume a basis of 26 W/in². If elements have lower watt density, work temperatures may be increased, while higher watt densities require lower work temperatures. Air velocity over the heater is determined by calculating the volume of air circulated against the free area for air flow.

Configuration Options

The series is constructed with rugged finstrip elements mounted in a sturdy steel frame made of 14 gauge cold rolled steel painted with high heat resisting black enamel paint. Fins are aluminized steel to improve heat transfer.

Housing and Terminal Configurations

  • Type CAB: Features side terminals. Field wiring utilizes heavy duty ¾" diameter bolts of brass (for iron sheath units) or Stainless Steel (for chrome steel sheath units).
  • Type CABB: Features bottom terminals with the same field wiring hardware options as Type CAB.

Sheath and Element Materials

  • Rust-Resisting Iron Sheath (e.g., models ending in 2, such as CAB-62).
  • Chrome Steel Sheath (Stainless) (e.g., models ending in 11, such as CAB-611).

Internal electrical connections utilize a combination of buss bars and jumper straps made from Manganese-Nickel or MONEL.

Options and Accessories

  • Terminal Cover Option (PCN 269720): One required per circuit to prevent accidental contact with live electrical terminals.
  • MONEL Sheath and MONEL Fins: Available for humid conditions.
  • Model TDH Heaters: Configurable using Fintube elements.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two styles is terminal placement. Type CAB units have side terminals and should be installed with field terminals facing upstream to provide maximum cooling effect. Type CABB units feature bottom terminals. Both types require installation in duct work with the terminal box positioned on the bottom of the heater.

Model numbers follow a specific guide: CAB-/ or CABB-/. For example, CAB-611/120 denotes a Type CAB unit with chrome steel sheath at 120V. Variants are available across the documented power and voltage ranges.
