Supported Applications
The Omega RTD-831 series is a bolt-on or cement-on surface temperature sensor featuring an aluminum flag housing designed for flat surfaces. The product overview identifies specific applications including product performance testing, climate control and HVAC systems, monitoring and control of processes, hot plate equipment, and process pipes.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series utilizes a 3-wire Platinum RTD element available in PT100 or PT1000 Ω configurations with Class A or Class B accuracy per IEC 60751. Process temperature ranges are defined by version: the standard version covers -60 °C to 230 °C (-76 °F to 446 °F), while the high-temperature (-HT) version extends from -60 °C to 450 °C (-76 °F to 842 °F). The housing material is aluminum, with a barrel dimension of 0.562 in x 0.190 in and a mounting body dimension of 0.31 in x 0.31 in.
Configuration Options
The RTD-831 series offers configurable electrical connections, screw sizes for the flag housing, cable lengths, and lead materials to accommodate specific installation requirements.
- Electrical Connections: Four termination options are available: Miniature 3-pin connector (-MTP), standard 3-pin connector (-OTP), stripped ends (-SE), and spade lugs (-LUG).
- Screw Size Designations: The flag is machined to accept various screw sizes. Standard models (no suffix) feature a 0.116 in hole for #3 and #4 screws. Suffix -H147 provides a 0.147 in hole for #5 and #6 screws, while suffix -H170 offers a 0.170 in hole for #8 screws.
- Cable Options: A standard cable length of 1 m is provided; other lengths are available upon request.
- Lead Materials: Standard versions use PFA coated leads. The -HT version utilizes fiberglass with stainless steel overbraid for high-temperature service.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series are distinguished by resistance value, temperature rating, termination type, and screw hole size as indicated in the model number guide (e.g., RTD-831-MTP-H147). The standard version is rated for -60 °C to 230 °C (-76 °F to 446 °F), whereas models with the -HT suffix are rated for -60 °C to 450 °C (-76 °F to 842 °F) and feature fiberglass leads with stainless steel overbraid. Resistance options include PT100 (e.g., RTD-831-MTP) and PT1000 (e.g., RTD-831-PT1000-MTP). Termination suffixes define the connector type: -MTP for miniature 3-pin, -OTP for standard 3-pin, -SE for stripped ends, and -LUG for spade lugs.

The picture of this part and the drawing do not match. They are mirror images of each other. Can post pictures of the actual product? With the cable pointing to the left, I would like to know if the mounting hole is above or below the cylinder. Thanks
Please direct you question to temp@omega.com so your question can be fully investigated by an application Engineer.

Can RTD-831 series be used in Vacuum chamber like RTD-830 series? Thanks.
Hi Anonymous,
If used in vacuum there may be some outgassing from the epoxy used in construction; so we have no vacuum recommendation for this product; You would need to purchase and evaluate to see if would be acceptable. This has the same construction as the RTD-830. The new washer shape provides for stronger lead wire connection.
